I got brass quick connects for all my hoses but they created problems. After a year or so they wouldn't release - and not just one of them three or more of them stopped being anything but quick.

I replaced them with some plastic (I think the are nylon or something similar) connectors and they're going on fine after 2-years.

Maybe more info on what is driving the question?
Is it the actual speed of the connection that you want to change? Or is it more a matter of getting the connection tight without using tools? Maybe hands that don't grip as tight as we would like?

For speed the quick connect is about the only way to go but I find them a pain to keep working well enough and not leaking.

But if it is a matter of getting things screwed on tight to not leak and not hurting my hands, this may be a help:

There are several types with different forms but we have settled on this as better than quick connects. Maybe a different thought and some shopping for the type that looks best to you?

Water quick disconnects

We use quick disconnect applications for everything, (even TV cables and our main power cord).
Reason is, in an emergency, (fire, earthquake, etc.)—essentially anytime one needs to get out of a campground FAST.
For water, we’ve employed several variations over the years—some worked better than others.
For example, some are brass and steel—while those tend to be less expensive, they’re also cheaper—and leaked.
Pure brass have worked well, with no issues, (see photo insert).
Also take note that NOT ALL are qualified for drinking (potable) water.
On a side note, adding some additional connections won’t work with them. We had a double diverter that was also cheap, and wouldn’t connect to the quick connectors.
Finally found one that worked, and we’ve included that in this post as well.
All these make set up and tear down simpler, quicker and more efficient…

It's been my experience that brass hose connectors of any type have sharp threads and seal properly. Other metal connectors and plastic connectors all have rounded threads that will leak, sooner
or later.

Good quick connect

I tried several brands (metal & plastic) and these have worked very well for 3 years:

I have found this configuration to be handy as well:

They are not cheap, but they don't leak.

I am also interested in quick disconnects, not for the speed but to help reduce the possibility of cross threading anything. I have a mixture of metal and plastic hose components. It is so easy to bite into a plastic component with metal and once you do that your pretty well screwed. Anything that reduces the number of times I need to match threads could be of some benefit in my mind.

I use Snap on Garden Hoe Connectors with bonus Nozzle from Walmart. Order on-line, $9.99

They are plastic and can break but the price of replacement is cheap. I keep a few extra on-hand just in case. I don't need the nozzle but it's part of the package. One connector on A'zone is $25
