Visit to Winnie Factory advice....

I'm planning a trip to Forest City...(home of Winnebago factory) and have made an appointment for having some work done. I don't really have anything wrong with my RV, but it's 16 years old with 78,000 miles on it so I'd like to get some suggested maintenance stuff done.

Why I'm posting is to ask advice about my maintenance list here, do you all think it's complete or is there something I should add?

1) As required - replace HWH room slide nylon pads;
2) Remove and replace slide wall & roof seals if required;
3) Oil and filter change on engine, lube hub bearing;
4) Lube the chassis;
5) Service the diesel Genset, oil, filter, check AF, burnish slip rings.
6) Full service on the basement heat pump, change squirrel fan to plastic upgrade, change motor caps, lube all rotating bearings.

That's all I can think of...anyone have anything I should add to the list?

Also, Winnie has given me a quote to change the carpet, $4,000 for LR, $4,000 for the BR. Yikes! $8,000 for a carpet job. Anyone have a better idea of where to have that done in the Forest City area?

I'm undecided about carpet or vinyl or wood flooring. Suggestions?

PS I'm a full timer, no sticks and bricks house.

Thanks for any advice...

We are part-timers, still owning house and "stuff". We have a 36G '05 Journey 36G. We hate carpet and laminate would be much cheaper and you will have $$$$ to do other things. We have heard horror stories about factory drop ins . Please be sure you have an appointment or you will be spending a lot of down time on a waiting list.

If you are planning on putting laminate in the future in the salon area talk to winnebago as the have different (shoes?) that they can change out under the slide to better work with laminate or vinyl

Forest City doesn't do any oil or lube on the engine or generator. It is best to have an appointment as it will save waiting until there is an opening. They do have appointments several months in advance, so call as soon as possible. They do have electrical hook-ups only. There are waste dumps and water on the rally grounds and also at the city park. When you call, have your VIN number, as they will ask for it. It is a very good place to have work done. I have been 3 times and highly recommend them for work.

You should be able to have the dealership in town take care of the lube side of your wish list.

Our Winnebago is the first rig we h ave had with all vinyl. Originally I wasn't too happy but now I love it. So much easier to take care of. A quick sweep and you are done with the "quicky" clean up. There was never a "quicky" clean up with carpeting.

For changing out the carpet I would go to an independent. I have seen the one we use in Phoenix(D & R) doing the change out and I would assume West in Livingston, TX does it also.

Thanks to those mentioning I need an appointment. I've done that, I'm scheduled for the week of May 21st.

Used their email form on the 'Contact Us' area of their web site where I listed the VIN and other particulars. They answered quickly and gave me a choice of either of two weeks in the first month I'd requested. I asked for an appointment in May, June, September or October as I didn't know how booked they might be already. I'm retired so have a relaxed schedule. They offered the week of May 14th or May 21st. I guess they are allowing a week for the items I've listed as they offered an appointment 'week' as opposed to 'days'.

They have specifically said yes to all the items on my list above.

The Forest City shop WILL do oil changes, lube jobs (chassis), including lubing the fan hub on the engine, I checked about that. They won't do engine 'lash' adjustment (80K mile routine adjustment for the Cat engine). They'll also do the routine maintenance of the diesel genset, oil, filters, and will check or replace coolant as needed.

Everything else on my list above, they have committed to do for me.

I hadn't read before about the nylon pads for a HWH flat floor slide need to be a different type if you change flooring. That's a new one on me. But I'll be sure ask about it when I'm there in May.

Thanks for the advice, everyone...
