Thanksgiving Camping Trip

Each year my wife and I say, "Hey lets take the RV out for Thanksgiving weekend." But every year we say it too late and all the nearby State Parks are fully booked. Every year but this year! This Summer when I was making some Fall trip reservations I thought to book Thanksgiving days back in July.

We're just going to our favorite nearby State Park - South Llano River SP in Junction, TX just 107 miles away. We'll be there 4-days starting Friday. FUN!

We've been to this SP dozens of times (hundreds?) and there's not much to do but it's small, nicely laid out and just a nice place to be. The town nearby is an old ranching town with a downtown full of long closed stores - it's kind of a ghost town really. It's right on the edge where the Texas Hill Country ends and West Texas begins and right on Interstate 10.

We appear to have gotten lucky with more than reservations - it's supposed to be sunny and high 60's each day. A real bonus is that gas in our area is... wait for it... $2.79/gal. Read it and weep Californians.

Are any of you heading out for Thanksgiving weekend? If so, where??

Have a great turkey day and time with your family!

Sounds lovely. Our daughter was in marble falls not far from Llano (Yano) for a few years.

We are in Pismo Beach for the week. 70’s here, and gas was 4:65. Happy thanksgiving!

You all have fun, I love camping in the Fall, most of our state parks here in Ohio leave a small section open for the adventurous that like to camp in the colder weather. It is almost all dry camping as the water systems have been turned off, so you only have the water you brought with you, but the air is crisp and clean. I simply love fall time.

We usually travel to the beach, but this Thanksgiving we are in St. George Utah visiting family. Beautiful, but cold here! Happy Thanksgiving!
