Suggested alternatives to a TOAD . . .

We are considering some other tow behind for getting around at camp and when in town.. We do a lot of ATVing when in the mountains. And we would like something easier to tow . . . usable on Forrest Service roads and trails and drive around in town as well. I've looked at scooters (Vespa type) . . . not really gonna work. And other types of 2 wheel vehicles. Even looked into electric bikes and eBike conversions. Nothing is jumping out at us. So any ideas are welcome.

Take another look at electric bikes. They have a 30+ mile range before recharging which gives you quite a travel radius. They can be recharged in two hours. The only downside is where to store them. But if you tow an ATV you may be able to find room. Look at Rad Bikes and Lectric Bikes, particularly the foldable types. $1,200-1,500 for Rad, $1,000 for Lectric.

We use a 250 cc scooter Its a SYM and is fully automatic (CVT tranny like an ATV) so its really easy to drive, does highway speeds riding two up with ease. We used it all through Yellowstone. We also tow two ATVs so we either put it on the trailer when we are taking them or carry it on a bumper mounted carrier when we aren't taking the quads. Both the SYM and Kryco are made in Taiwan (not china) and have a great reputation for reliability and there are lots of them around used. You can pick a used one up for less than $2000. My wife prefers riding the scooter to our big V twin bike

The popularity of toads is testament to their best suitably for all purpose getting around, regardless of the weather.

EBikes are great fun and I have had several. I take mine on every trip in the RV and ride a lot. But eBikes don’t fit every location. There are not always bike safe roads to the places you want to go.

From what you’ve said a Jeep-type vehicle as a toad is the only thing that does all you want. Well, except not having to have a toad.

We had a toad when we had a motorhome. I bought an older Ford Focus and dd all the required work myself that was needed to make it flat towable. In retrospect I would have saved a lot of money by just getting a rental at our destination.

It is no longer an issue for us since we now have a travel trailer.

I saw a razor with a Montana motorcycle plate,
legal to drive on the road.
Saw it in the Florida Keys.

Also check into LSV license plates available in all 50 states. (Low Speed Vehicle) think golf cart.
My golf cart is bigger than a Smart Car.
