Sanity prevailed
Some weeks ago there was a thread about California's proposed requirement that all diesel vehicles over 14,000 pounds had to meet California emissions standards to be able to enter California. While I assume that was mainly meant to apply to large diesel trucks it also included larger Class A RVs.
However, in the end, apparently sanity prevailed.

Please do not use Sanity and California in the same post.
It might cause confusion among the masses

Actually I think money prevailed. I think someone started thinking about the loss of income to the state that would result in all of those Class A RVs curtailing their travel to California and finally said "Duh"!

I think owners of Class A Diesel Pushers and Super C Diesels tend to be more affluent, stay longer and bring in more money. Exactly the people you want to draw, rather than drive away.

Don’t diesel vehicles that use DEF have cleaner emissions than gasoline engines?

It was actually the RV industry that lobbied successfully to have them amend the statute they proposed.

Sanity hasn't completely prevailed. Diesel owners will still be required to prove their rigs can pass every year- they left that part in.

Yes. Diesels are more efficient than gasoline engines—and according to one recent study, newer models are cleaner, except for their higher emissions of nitrogen oxides. But the Catalytic converter. DEF system only came into use in 2009 too. And people with DEF systems have found significant reductions in fuel economy in many cases.

Only for those who live in CA. Sounds like it will be required as part of the annual registration process. We already do this for passenger vehicles every two years. It's an easy process, and smog check stations are like 7-11 stores here (or waffle houses if you're in the south), it seems like there's one on every corner. Those of us in CA have to live with the idiots we elected, and the rules they impose on us. At least in this case, we won't impose on short term visitors, driving them away, litterally.

I think the reduced efficiency of EGR, which is often done in addition to DEF, is the primary cause of the fuel economy issue. I’d be quite keen to eliminate EGR while retaining DEF and DPF.
