We've never had a toad. Most of our camping is within 40 miles from home. With our occasional long trips to Az. we just rent a car for a week or so. I can't justify the money for a car and all the towing accessories for our type of rv'ing.
Never had a toad. Our cars can't be towed and need a trailer and I'd rather not. We made a SW winter trip a few years ago, staying for a week at a time. A simple matter of calling up Enterprise and have a car delivered to you.
Agreed. We have a vehicle that could easily be set up to be a toad, but choose not to. Our smaller motorhome makes it pretty easy to find parking most places we go. No problem with walking at times. We plan ahead for meals, groceries, etc....and eat 'in' most of the time. And, there are restaurants and Walmarts everywhere. If we are going to be in one spot for a few days, we reserve with Enterprise. It has worked quite well.

Nothing fancy about it.
Exactly what we wanted.
We just got an nice Honda Reflex 250cc Scooter and an aluminum rack that fits into the tow hitch on the back of our coach. It was cheap and economical and kept us from getting into towing a car. Works for us.
If you have a towed, you can choose not to take it. If you don't have a vehicle set up as a towed, you don't have to make the choice.
To each his own - there's no wrong answer.
I prefer a toad. We've rented before, we may do it again, but any long stay will probably include taking along the towed. Personal preference and many of the reasons others have posted as well.
We enjoy the flexibility of having our Wrangler to add a quick (takes less than a minute to unhook) free spirit unencumbered ability to explore or hub out from wherever we park our Vista. Although we have always had fold up bikes with us, the Jeep provides more options.
We always take it
We fulltime so there's no question , we have to have a toad.
Many times we have been in very small towns with no Uber/Lyft or car rental agencies. Often the grocery store is miles away. We're not unhooking our 40 ft motorhome to go to the store. Its five minutes to hook up or unhook the car, no biggie. And if there's an emergency', we're covered.
