Make the door open wider.
Has anyone here removed the gas spring from the bottom of their door so that it will open all the way? My Sunstar 27N only opens half way and with the slides out, makes you feel awkward getting in. On my old Georgi Boy, the door opened all the way until flat with the RV. I can see that the door on the Sunstar could hit the the awning supports but I figure I could make a stop to prevent damage. Longer gas spring maybe? Opinions?

The 2014 model has no gas spring - and I like it a lot. But it created problems for Winnebago.
Two problems: If the door is too far open, the electric awning will hit it and jam and cause all kinds of problems. Also, you will have to find a way to latch the door open when needed, as the wind will slam it shut.
Even with those issues, I still like having no gas strut on mine. I like a wide open door.

Thanks Dan, I will live with the gas strut for now, but it may come off in the future, the first time I bang an elbow into the door while carrying groceries up the stairs.

What if you were to install a gas strut with longer arm?

Following. Agree that having it swing a few degrees more to where it just misses the awning rail would be nice.

I've thought of that, just haven't taken the time to look at the bottom of the door to see how much longer I can go. Plus there's the hassle of moving the mounting plate, but fortunately I've got some skill in that area.

Did some research and tried looking up the part number of the gas spring. It's a Stabilus Lift-O-Mat Gas Spring, part number 155592 0100N. No luck finding that specific number but did find out that the 0100N is the pressure rating of the spring. Also did some estimates of how long I could go and figured maybe 2" longer than the existing 15" gas spring. Unfortunately, not knowing the other specifics of the current spring it's difficult to guess which model to try. And at $2?.?? dollars apiece, don't want to experiment much. Unless someone can decode these numbers:
