We are going through shopping for vehicle/homeowners insurance again and just found some info that is interesting, so thought to mention it to the group.
Seems as part of the new insurance we got a list of former claims we had filed, the hitch being that we had not filed any in years and years, being pretty aware that claims on things do result in higher premiums, plus being lucky, perhaps.
But there was a claim for $75 comprehensive on my 2015 Focus back in April 2016! Wow! Filing a claim for $75 ? Not something we are going to do for that amount of money.
So we figured it out after looking in the files for what we did on that day. We got a vehicle inspection at one of the local stations that do the state inspections and after giving it some thought we figured it out.
They had one of the fly-by-night windshield repair guys there at the time and he really, really, insisted I needed to have a chip in my windshield repaired. He insisted he could tell it was chipped but I couldn't and turned him down.
Having to leave the registration info, etc. with the inspection and the insurance papers having to be onboard, he filed an insurance claim and we never knew it!
He collects $75 for doing nothing, the insurance gets ripped off, and nobody usually knows about it!
What a world, huh?
I assume most of us are on the alert for fraud and this is one that I had missed being alert to watch for! Too late to do anything as fly-by-night does it that way!
