Issues with NEW Adventurer 27N

I would like to hear/read thoughts on dealing with Winnebago/Ford/Lazydays and issues that I have had with my NEW Winnebago Adventurer 27N. Purchased a NEW 27N July 30, 2021. Drove it home to AR from TN. Made trips to TX,NM, CO and around have aprox. 7,000 miles on it. It has been in a shop 20 days of the last 60 days approx. It is in shop now to have a rear end replaced but they can't tell me when parts will get to shop. I had an engine issue (new V-8 Motor) in NM had to have new sprk plugs and wires replaced due to a Ford Technical Bulletin. Had a dash Air issue that Winnebago customer service knew about, but has not helped with the repair cost. I had a broken bolt on the rear horizonal stabilizer replaced in CO. Had a loose bolt found on the front stabilizer drivers side that was causing a poping noise when turning right. this resulted in the unit having uneven tire wear and needing alignment. There was an issue with leaking rear wheel seals in CO. It is at a Ford dealer for a rear end replacement now. I'm at wits end and can't get and answer out of anyone at Winnebago, Ford or LAzyDays just alot of finger pointing. I just want to use my motorhome. I have also been told motorhomes aren't covered by lemon laws. Any help would be appreciated.

Wow, that is not good. We have had some issues with the motorhome part, but the Ford chassis (V10) has been quite strong. We did have a heater hose cut because it was zip tied to the oil dipstick, that caused some issues. But I don't think that Ford did that.

Sorry for your problems.

Hi Hale,
A machine is nothing but a collection of parts, and it sounds like you now have found all the bad ones! I would venture to guess that after you finish these final repairs, you will have years of trouble-free service. After all, what are the chances of more going wrong?
Welcome to the forum.

Rear End = F53 chassis = FORD
Rear End Seals = F53 chassis = FORD
Engine = F53 chassis = FORD
Horizonal stabilizer = F53 chassis = FORD

Wow! Sounds like your F53 chassis got built end of shift on a Friday and everyone just wanted to get out of the plant for the weekend ! In Winnebago's defense, the issues you describe don't sound like they would have shown up in the first 5 miles that get driven by Winnebago at the plant after assembly of the motor home. And dealer does not put many miles on it either. The rest of the miles are by some delivery driver that drives it from Forest City to a dealer that likely won't report the types of issues that you found unsatisfactory.

You might want to ask a Ford dealer to do a full inspection of the chassis and see if they can find anything else that is not right before your warranty expires.

I would document all these Ford issues in a respectfully worded detailed letter with attachments (your warranty service records). You can suggest things Ford could do to make you more satisfied then you currently are. Such as:
- tire replacement (you stated a problem caused abnormal tire wear)
- extend the standard warranty

Regarding Dash Air, that particular issue is NOT Ford, but Winnebago in the case of the F53 chassis, Ford only provides the bare AC compressor and Winnebago uses a different supplier for the dash air system.

Dash Air, you must go thru Winnebago for warranty service, and let their dealers
refer to a secondary AC repair specialist if need be. You MUST not go to the
secondary AC repair specialist yourself or Winnebago won't reimburse without
your going thru major hassles and escalations to even have a chance.

Similar with Winnebago, there is a chance that a letter to Winnebago will get someone with them to contact you to try to make you more satisfied.

So far as Lazy Days goes, they are unlikely to go to bat on your behalf with either Ford or Winnebago at least they won't put the effort into it that you could put in yourself.

Good luck..

Ouch, it seems your F53 Chassis has ended up with every possible “new chassis issue” that I’ve heard of from other users on other forums.

As detailed by Randy above, while you think of your RV as a Winnebago product, it’s actually a Ford product with a separate Ford Warranty for the chassis and running gear AND a Winnebago product for the motorhome built on the chassis.

Making it more confusing is that your dealership isn’t known for providing great nor timely service.

I realize that this doesn’t help you at all. And for that I’m truly sorry but the bright side is just about all your issues are Ford problems and generally Ford does a much better job of honoring and servicing their chassis than LazyDays does doing either thing on the Winnebago side.

Best of luck to you!

Welcome to the club! ;-) The 2020 and early 2021 class A's with the "new" F-53 chassis have come with a few manufacturing problems, as you've discovered.

The rear differential probably came to you with half of its recommended fluid. A recall is required to replace rear bearings, etc. I was lucky to find out about this when I only had about 1,500 miles on my 2021 Adventurer 29B. Filled it up with 4 quarts and have run about 9,000 miles since then with no issue. I'll take it in next month for the fix.

Haven't had the spark plug issue -- it's heat related, and mine had the baffle removed per the TSB. I've got the new plug wires handy and will install them when it's convenient.

The dash AC issue is well known across many brands -- the new V8 has different AC supply/return line hook-ups, and the factory (WBGO and others) failed to follow the new procedure. Figure an hour to swap the hoses to get cold AC. Worked for me.

For WBGO warranty work, I'd check references. I've been really pleased with the local Campers Inn (Acworth, GA) whose done a great job for my WBGO issues. For Ford chassis work, I've not had as much luck yet finding a shop nearby.

As others have said, your unit is a house on a truck rattling down the road and quality control during the manufacturing process is nowhere near that of an auto assembly line. You just have to learn and work through it. When you have, you'll probably then have a unit you can live with happily for many years.

I purchased my 2021 Winnebago Adventurer in Indiana in which I live in Ohio 225 miles away. On the way home two of the four lenses off the front clearance lights blew off! Contacted Winnebago Warranty and their response was go thru your dealer. I ordered them from Litchen for $4 each replaced them myself. Next dash AC blowing 80+ degrees. Known problem, once again no help from Winnebago I figured out they crossed the manifold hoses during assembly. Next sky light leaking over shower. I crawl up and observed the worst chalking I’ve ever seen. I fixed that. Next comes Ford! First all which is illegal for Winnebago, Ford, and the dealer sold me a new RV without completing a outstanding recall of the rear-end. Recall issued March 24th and I drove off the lot in April. Every shop I have contacted and even Ford customer service can complete the recall within 1-3 months. I’m driving until it burns to the ground. One last thing! I was driving to Michigan from Ohio and check engine light starting flashing. I immediately call Ford Customer Service and could only find a repair shop 90 miles away. If I took their advice repair could have been in the thousands. I went to autozone purchased a OBD reader and immediately show a misfire cylinder number 3 ( again known issue) I went to local Ford dealer and replaced the spark plug wires (total for OBD and wires $250) once again no help.

I find this all very strange. Historically, the Ford part of the motorhome equation has been fairly bullet-proof. Not anymore, I guess.

What is going on at the factory?

Did you have any problems with the house? Do you like the floorplan and the quality?

I feel your pain, i had an issue with major rusting under my brand new 27n which I discovered only after bringing her home from CW. Again nothing but finger pointing. so I fixed it myself. Maybe more of us victims of these disgraceful RV dealers and manufacturers should do what this Disgruntled woman did to CW and take them to court!

It's new chassis design and new engine design "teething pains". I know after they announced the new chassis/engine I saw a number of people saying, "Don't buy the first two years models because of all the new problems that will pop up." I have to admit, when I saw those comments I thought "Not with Ford, they'll get it right from the start."

Oh, well. It's not the first time I've been totally wrong.

I concur with "it's a new chassis/engine design." What's more, it's a limited production run for MH's -- there were only 7,876 stripped MH chassis produced in the seven month period that may be affected by the rear differential fluid issue. My guess -- totally unscientific based on all the activity on the forums -- is that just about all of them were affected. However, the dash AC hose swap issue is on WBGO for not paying attention to Ford.

Not complaining though. We really like the MH and its floorplan and are glad we got it back in March so that we've been able to enjoy the entire summer of travel. Plus, we saved a lot as new ones are selling for close to LIST$$$ now!

We do Like the floor plan. We did have leak in sky light in shower but I was able to fix with caulk and getting my old bones on roof. It seems the front A/C doesnt do as well as the bedroom A/C.

Yes we like the floor plan. It takes a little getting use to since there is no couch. The Driver/Passenger seats turn around and that makes our sitting area.

Outside cabinets leaking

Just purchased a 2022 adventurer 29b. Rides great but the outside cabinets are all wet after driving through the rain. This is our second winnebago and we did have this issue in our 2011. It was not an issue in our Georgetown. Any ideas other than "warranty "

Yes. I was really successful at finding every cabinet leak by putting BRIGHT work lights inside the cabinet after dark, then closing the door on them.

You'll be amazed.

Every single leak will show up, so just crawl around with your caulk gun and zap them. Better buy 2 tubes of caulk...

Yippeee - dry cabinets.

And you got a replacement installed for free under warranty and your compartments adjusted and sealed at the same time... yes? If not, why didn't you?

Just purchased the 27N less then a 60 days and rear view camera went out on first trip. Of course stupid me purchased from Camping World and now my appointment is exactly 2 months from the day I called. No support from Winnebago or camping world headquarters on the length of time it takes to get a appointment. This is my 3rd Winnebago And I love the floor plan, but I think I might of made a mistake purchasing with the new 8 cyclinder Worst gas mileage of all my coaches I owned, even others were larger. I just keep adding items to be fixed during my 2 month wait time. Hopefully by time warranty is over all things will be fixed. I’m really surprised I had a lot of confidence in Winnebago prior.

You don't have to stick with Camping World. That's a mistake. Especially since you live in Las Vegas. You've got National Indoor RV Center in Vegas and they are a Winnebago dealer.

They do get super busy and may not be able to get you in immediately, but they are who you want to service your RV. Especially under warranty. Even though you didn't buy there, you want to establish a report with those guys. They are top notch! Camping World is bottom notch.

Here's the details.
