Going to Forest City

Hello..

I'm going to Forest City this weekend for a Monday/Tuesday service appointment.

I was hoping someone who has been there recently could help with idea's on what to do. We will have our bike with us, so we hope the weather cooperates.

Obviously, we plan on taking the factory tour. What else (at this time of year) should we be doing?

Also, are there any "tips" or "secrets" that we should take advantage of while we're at the factory?

Thanks in advance for all your help !!

A ride through Pilot Knob State Park this time of year would be beautiful. The park is just a couple of miles east of Forest City. I was at the factory a year ago.

I'm sure that you'll want to take in the Winnebago Visitor's Center. A lot of us guys would hang out on the patio in front of the Service Center. Lot's of good RVing stories and getting to meet people from all over the US and Canada.

Winnebago has overnight spots at the Visitor's Center. Some of the RVers there had a campfire going and a pretty good group having a good time. Others got together and went downtown for supper.

There is a great restaurant on Clark (?) Street for Breakfast. The name is Sally's ... it is beside an ice cream shop (Scooby Do's ????)

We eat breakfast there every time we are in Forest City for service ... we move our rig to the "line up" and as soon as the tech takes the coach we head to Sally's.

If you have wheels, we enjoyed dinner at the Branding Iron, 135 Jackson st, Thompson, IA 641 584 2912. Generous portions and some nightly specials. Suggest you call ahead for clarification on hours and specials. Enjoy

Across the street from the service center is the WIT club office and in that building is a very good history/display of the winnebago history. Well worth a couple hours of your time.

Here's the Visitor's Center across the street from the Service Center that 1ciderdog mentioned above. It has a very nice Winnebago history display in addition to the WIT Club. There may be new models on display for people to check out also. Have a good time, I know I enjoyed my service trip and I hope you do also!

You can go to Clear Lake, IA - just to the South East and see the Surf Ballroom where Buddy Holly played the night he was killed in a plane crash it is worthwhile.
There is also a Frank Lloyd Wright Hotel in Mason City.

We found this in a cornfield near Clear Lake. On private property but open to visit this memorial.

Drive an hour north to the SPAM Museum. It is free and a good bucket list visit.
