I would place my money on closer to zero than to one mpg.

I've got a suspicion the two weights you posted are the chassis specifications weights rather than the actual weights of the motorhome. Not to get off topic, but be sure to check the carrying capacity of the 24V on teh 11,500 lb chassis. You may find it nearly overloaded while the 24F on the 14,050 chassis has plenty of carrying capacity.

Now back to your questions, the fuel mileage is more affected by wind resistance, and since the two chassis probably have very similiar frontal areas, I'll be they get very close to the same mileage. Slight differenece could be in the fact that the 14K chassis might have higher numerical gearing in the rear axle which will cause the engine to turn faster.

All things considered, I bet less an 1 mpg difference.

Joe-K is right on target I think. Speed is more of a factor than weight. The simplified formula is E=MV^2. The mass is linear, the velocity is exponential.

So bottom line, buy the bigger chassis, carry more stuff to have more fun then drive there at 60 MPH instead of 70 MPH and milage will be about the same -- plus as an added bonus side benefit, your brakes will wear less.

Thanks Walt. That cleared it up for me.

You are punching the same size hole in the air so there will be little difference. Wind resistance and speed are your 2 biggest factors.

Just back from our most recent trip. 5164 miles using 573.973 gallons for an overall average of 8.997 MPG. Lowest price paid for diesel was Albuquerque at $2.149. I did see a place in Texas that was $2.059 but I tend to frequent Flying J because of the fuel quality and freshness. Have never had to replace the fuel filters and no water in the gascolator.

East bound from Albuquerque to the Washington area was mostly slight tail winds and the mileage was up around 9.9 but west bound from Mobile to Albuquerque was mostly head winds, which lowered the average. These MPG’s were obtained with the cruse set to 60 MPH and the transmission in economy mode (I still detect no difference between economy and normal).
