Would appreciate any input as to whether or not the FMCA membership is worthwhile. I've joined Good Sam because it has some obvious benefits and information for newbie class-A-ers like us, but don't know about FMCA. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Hi, welcome to the forum! Yes, I feel the FMCA membership is worthwhile. I belong to both FMCA and Good Sam and while Good Sam has it's benefits, it seems more like a giant marketing organization, while FMCA is more member oriented. That's just my opinion and you'll probably get some disagreement from others here. FMCA offers all the extra products, they just don't seem so "pushy" about it.

If nothing else, the FMCA magazine is worth the membership cost. Very nicely done and loaded with info for newbies and oldies alike.

Try FMCA for a year and I think you'll like it. I'm sure you've been on their website, but just in case it's www.fmca.com

I totally agree with Tom on the Good Sam membership. While I am also a long time member I am seriously considering not renewing again because they have turned into a "spam" factory. I get mailers from them almost weekly trying to sell me insurance, roadside assistance plans and life insurance. FMCA is a lot better member oriented organization and like Tom said, they offer a lot to there members but don't shove it at you. IMHO

I am especially fond of their magazine (FMCA) too. Very informative and entertaining.

I too have had the same experience with Good Sam as others have.

Once they get you on their rolls its almost next to impossible to stop the mailings.
Belong to FMCA and enjoy the affiliation. Good Miles

We have FMCA (due to the bus) which we like. The mag is pretty good although it would be nice if they didn't do so many stories out west. Good Sam is about worthless. We have used the GS discount once in the 2 years we have been members (we like Public campgrounds). The mag is one big ad and I'm tired of all the junk mail. Our subscription expires this summer and I will not renew.

Good Sam offers dicounts at certain campgrounds which can more than pay for the membership. They do mail stuff but you can read, participate or throw it away.(It says GS on envelope so you can ditch it without even opening it) They also offer discount insurance(unavailable in Socialist Massachusetts) Road service, jamborees etc. FMCA has got a good mag (if your into expensive rigs) insurance,(again MA) and oh yes Rallys. These are glorified Motorhome shows that fulltimers flock to for the free samples and danish. Depending on your age and camping style either or both may be a benefit. For me I see nothing Family about FMCA.

I also highly recommend FMCA. As mentioned, the magazine alone is worth it. There are plenty of other benefits which you may or may not use but you also have access to Coach-Net Emeergency Road Service at a discount.

Coach-Net is the best ERS out there but you can't just sign up directly. Various organizations do sponsor membership though and if you are an FMCA member you can join at a discount. That's another great benefit of FMCA. If you are into rallies they have some of the biggest and best.

Along with your FMCA membership comes Medex, free, they fly you out if necessary and provide a volunteer to drive the coach home. they used to have a program to pay up to 1000 of your deductible if you got sick on the road but may have dropped that. We only have Good SAm for the mag but am going to drop, too much junk mail

Send a message via Skype™ to George Miklas
Last Spring I renewed my membership for 5 years, then sold the MH. I've thought of putting the FMCA placards on my PUP.
Now that would be a site

The best FMCA membership benefit to me is:

Emergency Medical Evacuation Program

Effective January 1, 2001, FMCA contracted with MEDEX Assistance Corporation to provide active family and life members with coverage under the MEDEX PLUS Program. This program helps traveling members to effectively manage the complexities and expenses of out-of-area medical and travel emergencies. Members receive this coverage with no sign-up required.

Travel can be for business or pleasure at a distance of 100 or more miles from your primary residence. Coverage is provided while traveling throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. MEDEX must approve and coordinate all services.

MEDEX provides members with toll-free access to travel assistance services and also coordinates and pays the approved costs associated with the following:

1. Emergency medical air and ground evacuation: Medically supervised evacuation to the nearest appropriate facility if an FMCA member is involved in an accident or suffers a sudden, unforeseen illness and adequate medical facilities are not available.

2. Repatriation of remains: The return of an FMCA member's mortal remains in the event of death.

3. Return home of unattended grandchildren and dependent children: Transportation home for an FMCA member's children and/or grandchildren left unattended as the result of a member's accident, illness, or death.

4. RV and automobile return home: Return of an FMCA member's drivable vehicle to his or her residence (or return of a rental vehicle) if the member is unable to operate the vehicle due to accident, illness, or death.

5. Transportation to join a hospitalized member (for member traveling alone "” if member is hospitalized for seven days or more): The transportation of a family member or friend to visit an FMCA member who is hospitalized for seven days or more.

6. Transportation home after initial evacuation: The transportation of an FMCA member to the point of origin, or permanent residence, following an emergency evacuation.

Each of these services has no limit to the cost that will be paid by MEDEX with the exception of the fifth one "” family member visit transportation for the member traveling alone "” which has a limit of $1,000.

Thanks to all of you for wonderful posts and information on this topic. If for nothing else other than the Medex benefits, it seems worth the price and my wife and I have joined FMCA today. Thanks again

I believe the air transport benefit only comes at an extra premium. There are volunteer members who will try to drive your motorhome home if you become disabled.

Nope, an included benefit. FMCA has NO add-on extra cost benefits.

FMCA will NOT do anything about a pet that you may have with you.

I too am a member of both and enjoy FMCA mag, it is well put together. I have only been a member for about a year, but I will renew. The membership came free for one year with the purchase of our MH last year.

I too am a fan of FMCA. Been a member for 15 years and like others have said, the benefits far out weigh the modest cost of membership.
Good Sam member also, and have noted the increased advertising, "fall outs", and junk mail.
Doubt that I will renew.

Good Sam Club = For-Profit Entity

FMCA = Non-Profit Entity
