Did we buy an unpopular model?

Hi, just curious why I dont see much talk of the Itasca horizon models on this site? mostly wondering about the 34ft. models, I havent even seen one out on the road yet and I drive truck for a living. Maybe we just bought an instant classic!

It doesn't really matter so long as you like it. I never really got the Itasca product branding. The Winnebago branding is so iconic, I think most people just tend to go with that name when looking at different manufacturers.

Itasca and Winnie are virtually identical, the itasca used to be the Lexus to Toyota, but now it's for sales. If there are two dealerships within a certain distance they can't both sell Winnie so one sells Winnie and one sells itasca.

I know how you feel, Gary and Tena. We have a 2007 Winnebago Tour and I've only seen 2 Tours (of any year) in our first year of full-timing. But I love it!

Hammerlane,
It's not unpopular. They're out there. It just so happens you're not in the same place at the same time. The Itasca version of Winne has been around for a long time. They're known for quality products. They're basically a sister ship to Winnies of the same model. For instance, in our model year, ours is the Itasca Horizon, and the Winne model of basic equal value and make up is, the Winnebago Vectra.

In the same model year, the Itasca Meridian is the next model down and is equal to the Winne Journey. But, in the following year, they moved the ranking around some and the Meridian became the top choice for Itasca. I have no idea what was done after that.

While you will see more Journeys than some of the other models, the Vectras and Horizons were more costly at the time and therefore not purchased as much. If you go to several of the popular selling sights like Trader, EBay and others, and type in Horizon or, Meridian, you'll see plenty of them. We love our '04 Horizon 36GD with the 330 CAT. Outstanding quality and fit and finish. The interior decor was well done.

If your satisfied that is all that matters. I have a smaller MH and it probably is not the most popular but I like the economy. I can fit where the big guys can't.

If I had the money---you would be able to see a third tour on the road.

One of our good friends, and one of the moderators on this forum, bought a Horizon last year. It's a beautiful coach.

As long as you like it that's all that matters. We have a near vintage 1995 Thor Residency...I've only seen one other one on the road. We love it, love the floorplan plus love not having a payment.

Thanks for the boost in confidence! We definetly have a love affair with our horizon, and they do have very luxurious interiors. We test drove a couple of 40 footers, but just kept coming back to this one because of the sporty handling and nice power delivery.

The Itasca 2003 Horizon's were the equivalent to the Winnebago 2003 Journey's. We owned a 2003 32' Horizon and loved it.

In 2004, the Itasca equivalent to the Journey was named Meridian, and the Horizon name moved up to the top of the line and was equivalent to the Winnebago Vectra.

In 2010, the Vectra and Horizon names were phased out, with the Tour and Ellipse moving to the top of the line spots, the Journey and Meridian moved up one spot, and the Journey Express, and Meridian V Class, filled in at the bottom of the big diesel pusher lines.

The names may have changed, but features and quality remain in those spots. There are lots of Horizon's out there, but are larger and more delux than your 2003 model. And no 2010-2012 models.

I just bought a Itaska Sunova 30 ft. with a slide. The quality is great in and out.
I also like the 4 real glass headlights like on the cars of the seventies.

The Ford chassis is very well done. Now I just need new tires, OUCH.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also like the "old school" round headlights, they are cheap to replace and also give our coaches some character. I put chrome half shields on ours, makes the headlights look like chrome from a distance.

2000 Horizon here. In my model year the Horizon was sister to the Journey, and is Itasca's top of the line. I've only had it for a few months, but am pleased.

Lot of people have totally different views on an RV plan. The only thing you need to consider is if you like the floorplan. Just remember that some people have little taste.

FWIW, the story I was told on the Winnie Factory Tour is that years ago when GM and Chrysler were supplying the chassis for most Winnie RV products, GM created a stink about having their products in the same showrooms with Chrysler-based units. Winnie split the line so Itasca and Winnie were in different dealerships. The complications of current dealer agreements and exclusive sales areas makes it impossible to just give Winnie products to all Itasca dealers, so the current branding will be around for awhile.

Did Winnebago use the rear radiator or the side radiator in Horizons of that age? I purchased a new 2004 36" Meridian without even looking at the Horizons as the particular dealer didn't have any Horizons to look at. Always wondered if I could have gotten the side radiator by paying a bunch more above the Meridian.
