Question Cargo Door Slam Latch Issue

We purchased a used 2017 Navion 24J, and the cargo doors are supposed to have a slam latch. I assumed this meant the doors would latch when the doors are slammed shut. However, they do not slam shut, and you have to pull and hold the handle while shutting the door. I was expecting the slam latch to mean you could just slam the door shut without pulling on the handle. Can someone please help me understand if the latches should operate like this. Thanks!

I believe our 2016 Navion 24J uses a similar latch. I've never heard of a "slam latch" - is that like a automotive hood or trunk latch? Our cargo doors DO NOT latch reliably when it is slammed or even just just pushed shut - no matter what we do with the handle. .

The trick we use is to put the side of your leg against the cargo door and lean sideways on the door to force it against the gasket while turning the handle to lock. It doens't take much of a push. That seems to fasten it properly. We can feel it fasten.

The dealer showed us that trick.

It's important to keep in mind that a Navion and a Meridian have totally different cargo doors and latches. So, the two don't correlate exactly.
