Smile Camping in NH in November

I have to go up to NH mid november. I dont have tank heaters, if I leave the heat on will pipes be safe or should I not even try? Never camped in cold weather before.

Any feedback appreciated,
Tom

Tom, I’m doing the same thing. I have a Micro Minnie with the “extreme winter package” and “heat insulated tanks”. I need advice on what I should do to prevent pipes from freezing? I’m traveling cross county from Idaho to NH. I will not be staying anywhere except for the night and then driving each day.

November, particularly late November in NH or Id can be cold, probably getting down into the teens on some nights. If you have a heated basement then you will almost certainly be ok.

If not, this is what I would do: Wrap a curtain, maybe painters drop cloth all around the bottom of the coach attached with duct tape to create a dead zone underneath. Then if you have power, hook up a small electric heater underneath the coach, obviously away from the gas tank, maybe in the front blowing underneath the engine's oil pan and then back.

You can probably live with maybe 10 degrees overnight with this scheme. One problem you will have is that if you break camp and hit the road with the temp in the teens, the wind chill factor at 65 mph could freeze the plumbing. When I did this once, I stayed until the temps rose to above freezing.

You have a protected underbelly, and that is an R rating of 4. Also, most units after 2016, have two vents that allow your furnace heat to fill the tank cavities...and also, if you buy a ceramic-disc Micro Furnace, and have it sit on low, continuosly...in lew of running your propane..(assuming you have 120 at your site) it will heat the entire cabin and FLOOR, and that will radiate heat (the floor wooden substrate) to your tanks. In November, you are good to go...for it will only be perhaps less than 10 hours per day, that you (might) see sub freezing temperatures...and even if you do...just add 1/2 gallon R.V. antifreeze to both your Black and Grey tanks...and you will truly not have any issues with your two tanks, (as long as they are not opened valves all the time). As for your water pump, which usually sits below your bed support. If that worries you..merely run once per two hours, both hot and cold for 30 seconds...and that will absolutely prevent water crystallization in those areas of your water lines. Of course, in the cabin, you will have 68 F (I assume) heat, and all the lines resident in your cabin, will be safe 24 hours per day. Good to go....
