Best Fuel Milage Ever!

Hello:

We had an interesting situation on a recent trip through the hills of West Virginia with our 05 W/24 35A Suncruiser. Not too long after filling up w/fuel, I looked down and noticed the Actia dash said we had 1149 miles to the next fill up! Yikes! It gradually came down (over the course of the day) but still was way too high to be trusted. The next day after refilling, it started at about 580 miles to next empty (I've never seen it much above 520 miles to empty). Do I have to re-boot my Suncruiser?? Kidding aside, this is our second cluster, first one failed shortly after delivery. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your input. Regards

I have not used that particular function but I have often seen a similar anomaly with the average mpg function.
If you are pulling a grade and the ave mpg goes below about 3 or 4 mpg it will go bonkers and reset at 100 mpg. It will slowly come back down to the actual average.

A WH customer service guy said they thought the Actia software guys had a buffer that was too small. I offered to head up the design review on the next iteration of the IP and kick some butt, but they haven't taken me up on my offer for some reason.

About the initial IP failure, that's not too remarkable to capture that early on in your ownership because this is when you are supposed to trap these types of problems or failures. I'm sure that the replacement IP will continue to function properly. My replacement IP has been fine for 3 years and counting. If there is a repeat failure I have not read where anyone has gone out of pocket for a replacement IP.

Once you get accustomed with how the IP relates data, you should be able to improve your prognostication skills.

Mine did a similar thing on a long, 30 mile grade from 3,000 feet to 10,000 feet at Ten Sleep in Wyoming. It was just fine the next day, and has been ever since. I figure it might have something to do with extreme grades for long periods of time. Was your experience similar?

Thanks for the input all. I guess I'll just wait and see if it starts to act normally again. I have not checked the other cluster functions yet to see if they are off as well. I'm familiar with software development too, and I would volenteer to join their beta test crew. Gary, I was going up and down grades for several hours in the mountains of s/e West Virginia but not as high as you mentioned. Thanks again and safe travels.

Just goes to show ya. These high tech toys are not to be trusted!!!
