Any one else have problems with Boldt?

Hello all,

I have a 2022 Boldt, picked it up a year ago and right off the lot it's been a series of very stressful events. The battery wiring for the house got scary hot. This was before the recall, so I think my Boldt was one of the first test cases. The dealer where I purchased it (another state far from my home) fixed it, yet I still had to take it to another dealer to get the recall fix again, which is a 4 hour drive one way for me. Then the awning didn't work. This year, with 10,000 miles on it the fan clutch assembly came off while driving, breaking various components. No battery power, no power steering, etc. I was literally coming home from camping in the upper peninsula of Michigan. They towed it in the opposite direction to the center that was closest to the site of breakdown, but it happens to be a 6 hour drive in another state. So, they fixed it but at this point I can't rent a car one way, there are no buses and I have no way to pick it up. Even have Good Sam extended roadside, but no one can help. Am I the only one with issues? I'm a retired widow who thought the mercedes engineering would save me from these very issues. I am really disheartened. Sorry for the glumness.

First, I'm sorry for your troubles. No one likes these kinds of problems.

Unfortunately, RVing includes a lot of similar issues. Now, it sounds like you've had a recall and then a chassis related mechanical problem. So, while that may be more than you expected, it's not like you've had a large number of problems. Most of us that buy new RVs find the first year to be the most challenging with many new issues and warranty work. For most this slows down after the first year or so.

Expectations can be one of the biggest problems. You expect your very expensive RV to be as reliable as any new car would be. Surely they have these things all sorted out... right? But the reality is you have a new truck and you have a new house and you've bought a complex marrying of the two items. And problems are routine and to be expected.

Not have a repair option close to you is making things worse. What many of us do is skip taking our RVs to Winnebago dealers hours and hours away and find a local company or even one independent technician that can handle just about everything. While under warranty it may help to work with someone that agrees to work with Winnebago's Warranty dept to do the work you need done. I know my local independent repair shop has been approved to do warranty work for half a dozen RV brands.

It's little comfort... but this is an RV Industry thing, not a Winnebago or Boltd thing. And it doesn't matter if you buy a $25,000 RV or a $2.5 million RV. For many of us, something breaks or goes wrong on every trip, or at least it seems that way.

OH! Thank you for the encouraging words, that really helps. I'm so ignorant and the learning curve is pretty steep, but knowing that this is expected is helpful. I also have to realize that most service centers are around large cities and I'm far from them almost all of the time. I guess it's the price I have to pay to live where I do. Thanks again for the helpful response.

See if U-Haul will rent you a small van one way, or check with Uber.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will look into U-Haul, but we don't have Uber anywhere near me. Where the Boldt broke down there was only sketchy cell service (1 bar), no close streets for an address and certainly no Uber or cabs. Those services are only near large metro areas as far as I've noted. I prefer the back woods! (which certainly sucks when you break down)
