You must be.
I "modified" until the "things to fix" outnumbered the "unnecessary modifications".

Ahh..those were the good old days!

Life is and always has been about CHOICES. Sometimes it's about US making the choice and sometimes it's not. Those of us retired have a longer list of choices that are just ours to make.

I'M HAPPY WHY WOULDN'T I BE

Okay Flatlander. What are you up to now? Did you read my post about modifying the empty hole under the washer/dryer cabinet to accommodate a drawer for the laundry stuff? (Don't know if that space is empty in your rig for certain.)

Oh yea. Don't forget that you fuel mileage will drop as you add stuff.

LOL! I just upgraded my Schwintek slide.
I didn't read that but I was wondering if there was enough room.
You will have to post some pictures when you finish.
Speaking of more weight. My sink covers that I have been hauling around for 17000 plus miles and never use must weigh at 40 lbs.
I am going to store them at home so I can do more upgrades at the lower mileage.

I don't want to hijack a fun thread but...
Jesse, what tid you do to upgrade the Schwintek Slide?
We are considering the Tour but are concerned about some of the Schwintek issues we have heard.
Thanks

Hi Norm
The Tour is amazing! Do it, I believe you will love it.
I really like the Schwintek slide mechanism as it is a major space saver. I am intrigued with the system. I have been trying to understand more about why many are having trouble with the system. I am experimenting with the system and measuring the dc amp draws with my changes. I know that the 4 Cass Hudson roller assembly's under my slide are rated at 400 lbs. So the rear half or the heavy kitchen end of my slide and contents should be 800 lbs or less. I haven't weighed it but I believe it is more than that. I installed an additional roller assembly in between the two end rollers which will increase the rear of the slide to 1200lbs. Or 2000lbs for the complete slide. I haven't heard of any rollers failing to this point. I am at this time thinking that this much weight resting on 4 - 2.5"x 5" roller bases mounted on new plywood will seat over time.
I believe that the seating of the new materials causes the v-rollers to take on weight in which are not designed to be weight bearing. Many have noticed the v-rollers failing at the time of there slide failure. I am working on a fix for this.
Man! Am I long winded!

Thanks Jesse, we really love the Tour and have found nothing else we like as much.
We'll see if our willpower (to wait another year) will hold out after the SuperShow and 2 weeks at Lazy Days Campground.

Norm,
I understand the new Grand Tour and Ultra Ellipse are now being built with all PowerGear slides. (Lippert purchased PowerGear last year so now they can provide either Schwintek or PowerGear slides.) They are also coming through with HWH levelers. I don't know about the regular Tour or Ellipse models.

Jesse,
I love what you have done. How in the world did you get in there to mount another roller??

It just seems to be human nature to want to modify our living areas so we think we are more comfortable. Many times we are after two or three tries.

I was determined but I didn't want to remove the awning, outer picture frame and slide mechanism and move the slide into the coach to gain access. The possibility of paint or tile damage was to high for my liking. I used paint stir sticks to protect the rubber seal then used wooden wedges to slowly raise the slide slightly off of the rollers. Once I could turn the rollers by hand I knew with patents I could make it happen. I imbedded the roller frame into liquid nail Then installed the roller an bolt onto its frame. Then removed the wedges and checked the roller alignment. This reduced the rear motor amp draw by 22%.

Jessey, you know that the 40U is the QD without the tag and the stuff that the extra length allows. My galley slide is the same as the '11 QD. How in the world did you get the rollers under the stove cabinet?

Your work is very impressive. What is your background?

I sell used tires and tinker.

My Schwintek slide out operation recommendations:

Have coach level with engine running

Wait until alternator kicks in.

Have fans off and at least one window open. (Back pressure increases the motors amp draws.)

Limit heavy contents in kitchen cabinets or heavy end of slide. (Note: sink covers are very heavy and never used so why haul them) More weight increases the motors amp draw.

Turn stall force setting down so the slide will warn you that there is a problem by stopping rather than self destructing.

Jesse

Hey Rick
I just looked at your rig. Very nice!
I see what you mean. How do you like the Comfort Sofa Sleeper. That air mattress looks comfortable.

I have the 'original' PowerGear rails. They seem to be working well. I lube them from time to time with CRC Power Lube w/PTFE. Love that stuff. We use the sink covers from time to time so they stay. With all of the stuff DW has plus my stuff in the way of tools for the work I may be called to do, we are well loaded.

Now. About those tires. So that is how you get a round to it. (Bad, very bad joke)

Keep up the good work.

I'll post pictures of what I found under the laundry cabinet. 16"x23" seems big enough for the detergent storage, don't yea think?
