Experience comes from every decision in life - good and bad. But then some people are just slow learners!

And then there's the Dunning-Kruger effect.

The Dunning-Kruger effect is a type of cognitive bias in which people believe that they are smarter and more capable than they really are. Essentially, low ability people do not possess the skills needed to recognize their own incompetence. The combination of poor self-awareness and low cognitive ability leads them to overestimate their own capabilities.

The term lends a scientific name and explanation to a problem that many people immediately recognize—that fools are blind to their own foolishness. As Charles Darwin wrote in his book The Descent of Man, "Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge."

After studying Psychology for five years in college I have to say I never heard of that one, but it does seem logical.

I will say that at 80 I'm probably a lot wiser than I was at 18, but you couldn't tell me that when I was 18, I knew it all back then.

When I came home from the service I asked my Father if he'd been going to college while I was gone. He replied he had not and asked me why I asked that. I told him he seemed a lot smarter than when I had left. He just laughed.

Yeah ... and many of us are just now realizing that we've recently been subjected to an enviroment full of that for around 4 years.
