RV freezer issues

Hello,

Just went out to start my weekend trip and pulled the rig out. Last used 3 weeks ago, been plugged into shore power since last trip. Fridge items all still nice and cool. Freezer not so much, cool, not frozen. Standing water in freezer section, not a lot, but probably 1/4". cleaned it up and went back out about 2 hours later and same thing. Fridge is on, drain line is not plugged. Fridge items still nice and cool. Any thoughts?

Is there a fan that's not working?

Update, went back out and now the fridge has stopped cooling, not sure if I have a thermostat issue or not. Troubleshooting to begin

So have done some additional troubleshooting. Removed upper and lower vents. Swapped from AC to propane. Have flame outside, guessing maybe I do have a fan flow issue. Are those visible from the upper vent removal? I removed the additional 4 screws on the black shroud up there but that did not seem to allow easy removal. Maybe just takes some additional persuasion to get them removed?

Have you looking online for a repair /owners manual for that specific frig?
I often find it easier if I can see where different parts fit together.
Labels on the frig should give the correct model ID, etc.

Well, crazy enough. I've really done nothing besides pull away from the house and to the front of the house after fueling up. The fridge seems to be working now, I did nothing. The power stayed on, fridge was in auto the whole time, I hate stuff like this that appears to be phantom related. Any thoughts?

Well I agree with Richard! He is helping me on my Norcold N822 refrigerator. Open the door to your refrigerator and look for the label. Read the model # and search for the model # owners manual. See what other manuals are available. Read and learn how the operate. Seems that defrosting could have been happening??? When you disconnect from shore power you transition to propane…or maybe you have something else but only way to understand things is starting with the labels and model #. Was it windy that day? Maybe the flame blew out….now we’re guessing but you see the point……:-)

So I have the Norcold N8XF. The supplemental manual that I have doesn't say much, I did download the troubleshooting manual from the web and provided some additional details but I haven't found anything specific about "auto" defrosting feature. Does this exist to your knowledge on this unit? It just indicates from my reading to turn to the unit off and place warm pans in the unit to speed up the process. Or does the frost limiter I have read about on some of these units exist and it was what was occurring by adjusting the temperature through this periodic process? Definitely appeared to be random. Constant learning for me

As a side note I get to buy a new upper vent cover as part of this process as I made a newbie move when removing the upper cover and dropped it from 6 ft and chipped the edge, smh.

If the unit is a Norcold N822 it sounds like the Thermister is bad. I've replaced the one in my rig several times over the last 15 years..Less than $20 on Amazon. I was told about this easy fix by a local rv repair technician..

If you noticed it start working after you switched to propane and its cooling on propane, maybe your 120 volt heat element is failing.

This might be a good time to mention this site for a method to test the thermister?

Thanks for additional information. Seems like some more to learn and take a look at. Home from the weekend, no issues while on site. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks again for the additional information. Much appreciated!

Did you run on LPG the whole weekend or was it OK on shore power?

It was okay on shore power, so I am making an assumption that maybe I just encountered it in a frost limiting cycle. That's the only thing I can come up with as all else seems normal now.

Your engine battery may have needed charging. Many of your items like the hydraulic jacks work on the engine battery, not the coach.

I find this RV repair guy videos hard to beat. I believe he has a bunch of information on refrigerator problems. Worth considering.
