You can solve it. Pull it out, junk it, and install a residential refrigerator. I sleep lot better now that ours is done.

They claim it is fixed. All Norcold did was to add a patch. They have a safety shut down which shuts down the frig totally. But the over heating problem is still there.

They have fixed nothing! They are still building the same crap as they have been for the last 10-12 years for the 1200 series.

I will NEVER have another RV with any kind of an absorption fridge inside. The residential is the ONLY way I will travel.

I threw the Norcold POS out on April 16th 2012 and the Samsung RF197 has been the very BEST change to our RV lifestyle EVER.

It has made a 1000% improvement in the quality of of keeping food fresh and frozen.

Don't waste your time or sleep over the POS.

Get rid of it!

I had a discussion with a Norcold rep. at GNR. He was a total moron and claimed the 1200 was a good refrig. I suggested that he look at all the Winnebagos that are being produced with residential units. He also played stupid when I asked him about class action lawsuits. As you can see I am not a Norcold fan, the worst part of my RV.

Try calling Norcold for any sort of technical support and see how far you get. They refer you to a local rep that can either be helpful or a total moron.

They have a line that sounds like some a lawyer would write. Something to effect that they do not provide technical support to customers due to potential legal issues. No kidding. They build junk and want to defend it by not supporting their customers.

When it's time for me to upgrade I'll find a used Nocold and put in in my RV, light the RV on fire and collect the insurance. The Nocold is like a 5 gallon gas can.

Wonder if Norcold follows this web site? What they should build a unit like the Amish Cooling Unit which does get good reviews. Ya see Norcold, someone can build a better mouse trap.

While the Amish unit is better than what Norcold builds it is a long ways from perfect. Mine failed in less than 24 months and it never did get as cold as the RF197 I installed a couple of months ago. The Amish unit in our coach was working one day then not the next day when it decided to start leaking the cooling fluids!

Look around, you will find lots of folks happy with the Amish unit and lots of folks that are not.

There are other options, common to boating and Semi truck installations that do use a 12v compressor and refrigerant system just like home residential units. To each his own, but they do offer 12vdc/120vac dual operation for some flexibility without the need for propane.

As long as a fridge used heat/flame to cool there will always be a chance for fire. Go Residential!!

We need to not ignore the fact that fires can happen in a residential too but frankly, I believe the risk is far greater with the POS Norcold than it is with my Samsung RF197.

There are many other locations in a RV where fires can happen.

That's why a well thought out Fire Extinguisher plan should be everyone's top priority especially if your RV is used full-time like R HOME is.

Mac The Fire Guy is the perfect resource to help you put together a FE plan.

Absobtion refridgeration has been around a real long time and is fairly reliable however it does require maintenance and such. In 12 years we have never had a problem with the Norcold single door unit in my coach aside from damage from bad campground electric which a Hughs AutoFormer and a Dinasaur board took care of years ago.

A Doometic is another story altogether.

Remember that for most residential units to work the temp behind the unit has to stay above 50 degrees farenheit.

Got my Samsung installed last weekend with the help of my brother, the cabinet maker extraordinaire. Had to remove the obsolete walkie-talkie charging station and the 6 x 8 oval base speaker I don't need. That made room for the additional 6" height. Now I got 18 cu ft for fulltiming starting in January.

Regarding fires, I spent an hour on the phone with the lawyer representing victims of a Norcold fire that took out the rv and their house too. He had first hand info from Norcold engineers and quality records he depositioned in the court case, .... very disturbing feedback.

X2. On the Amish unit......better built than Never Cold, but failed after a few months. I too, will always use a residential over absorption now that I have a Samsung R 197.

More info please....

Regarding residential fridges. How do they work if you dry-camp a lot? We like to go off the grid and I love the propane fridge for that. I am not sure that my batteries would support a residential type fridge for 4-5 days at a time...

Thanks in advance for any info....
