Crack in refrigerator

When cleaning out my fridge after camping, I discovered a crack in the interior of the refrigerator. The crack is along the bottom, under the vegetable drawer. We did have some rough roads on this trip, but we have off road package. What can be done aside from replacing the fridge? Anyone dealt with this? Thanks.

Hi Sneaky P,
I would recommend lightly sanding on both sides of the crack and apply a fillet of J-B Weld. Let it cure for a full day.

I think Eagle 5 is on the right track. There is nothing in the bottom of the frig
so fixing would be the best answer. Before sealing with what ever you choose. After sanding drill a small hole at each end of the crack. This will stop the crack from getting any bigger. JB weld is also my product of choice or you could go with fiber glass repair kit.

Good Luck safe travels

You've received some good advice. The refrigerator box is pretty much nothing but foam and plastic. Aside from the cooling system, there's nothing critical or high tech about it.

I've change my procedure to plastic weld those types of failures now using a hot iron style of plastic welder, cheap and instant repairs. Hopefully they are still using white ABS plastic in those boxes and not cheaper PVC. No need for drilling holes to prevent spread since you are welding the plastic back into a homogeneous entity with a good chemical and physical bond instead of trying to laminate an epoxy to a roughened surface.

Exactly!

SneakyP, Plastic welders are sold at Harbor Freight, be sure to buy the correct filler rod.
If you don't want to spend the money for a plastic welder, then JB Weld for plastics might be water-tight but I'm skeptical.
