Coleman Mach Kaput

Hello,

I have a 2012 Winnebago View 24J coach. The Coleman Mach AC model
48058-876 compressor starts, but no cold air comes out. The part I am looking for is P/N 14504019

Has anyone found a supplier for this unit? Yes, I asked Dr. Google, eBay and few other possible supply houses without success.

Thanks for the help.

Ron

I did some quick googling too. I only found 1 compressor for sale (not sure what model) but it was over $400. Could the issue be the capacitor and not the unit itself? If the one part is truely $400 (if you can find it) you're only a bit short ($ wise) from just replacing the unit all-together. I had to do that with mine when it stopped cooling (2010 model year heat pump).

The capacitors and all are fine. Compressor starts and runs. Just no cooling air. As you know, it is a closed refrigerant system.

Please send where you found the unit?

Thanks

It was an R22 compressor that I found.

Based on this It looks like that's not something that you're going to find unless you can find a breaker.

have you tried contacting Airxcell? https://www.airxcel.com/rv/coleman-mach/

Note that there's been a model # change to 48008-966:

https://www.airxcel.com/rv/coleman-m...number-changes

(The above link didn't hold the change info, you'll have to input your model #.)

The part number I posted is for a complete roof unit. Direct fit. Connects to existing components. No compressor only found.

That’s what we had to do. Because we have 2 units we decided that we would replace the rear heat pump with an A/C only unit. If we need heat we use the front unit or the gas furnace.

I had a problem with the one in my 2014 itaska. The coper line connecting the compressor to the coils cracked and be it lost the coolent. I found it less expensive to replace the complete unit then repair it. One word of caution. Replace it with the same make and model. I didn't and that was a expensive mistake.

If you are not a certified HVAC specialist it is not worth it. Recharging the unit is very expensive. Is it a heat pump model? Did you check for clean exchange fins and filters? (I know this is a dumb question. Of course you have. ) Are ALL the fans working? But, if you are a HVAC tech you would know all this stuff.
Go for a new unit. In the long run it will be worth it if it is the compressor.

Happy trails,
Rick

As you discovered, your part number is for the complete unit. It you want the compressor only you need to get the compressor info. from the tag on the compressor.
You seemed to have found a complete unit to replace instead but your original unit could still be OK.
- did you check the amp draw of the unit with the compressor running? Amps running about 1/3 of name plate could be a faulty compressor (no load).
- Dometic and Coleman both "usually" use a rotary compressor, less prone to failure than recip type. Many of these units have heatpump function. The heatpump reversing solenoid could be at fault (the switching coil or the 3-way valve). Typically the assembly is less than $100.00. A 15000 BTU rotary compressor runs about $200.00 in general.

If you are in a larger city you can call around for a Vo-tech or Career center school and ask if they have a HVAC course. If so, these folks usually are looking broken A/C units to put their skills to the test.
I use to teach HVAC; the instructor is usually the certifier of the work done by the students. It is far cheaper - most of the time the labor is free.

I just went through this with my 2009 Sightseer.

You say the compressor is running but there's no cool air coming out. Is the fan blowing and the air isn't cooled or is the compressor running and making cold and there's just no air moving at all?

In my case, the compressor was running and making cold, but my fan motor had died. I could go up on the roof and give the fan a spin and it would kind of run, but it was making grindy groaning noises that determined it was done.

The fan replacement was going to be $200-$300 for the part, which is almost halfway to replacing the whole unit. With the unit being 11 years old and having replaced the rear unit at 9 years old due to compressor failure, I decided the money was better spent to just replace the whole unit.

One other thought Ron. Have you ever removed the cover of the condenser and cleaned the condenser fins? When I had my units open yesterday (tightening mounting springs) I found the coils fuzzy with dust. I didn't have a paint brush handy so I used my hand and compressor air to get them as clean as I could. I'm certain you wash the ceiling filters on a regular basis.

Has anyone had luck getting Airxcell to consider a price adjustment on a Coleman Mach heat pump that failed a couple of months after the warranty expired. The warranty on our 2018 Mach 8 heat pump unit expired at the end of March 2020 and since we were on lock-down due to Covid-19, we did not discover the defect June. So far, Coleman/Airxcell has been unforgiving. Won't even consider a discounted price for replacement.
