If I remember right the electric hot water tank runs on that 20 amp circuit breaker. Even though the book says not turn hot water on electric when running generator. I did and It tripped the 20 amp circuit breaker, but I can not remember if I was running the air. could be connected to your problem.

update for those following this thread. I received my new 20 amp breaker and installed it. No change. Still works great on shore power but only kicks on #1 compressor on genset. Im out of ideas unless anyone has anything new. Have tested all electrical. I will just turn off my #2 compressor breaker inside when running the generator. Thanks for all your input and good luck para566. Let me know if you have any luck.

Thanks,
Dave

2000 winnebago journey36l, mine only runs 1st stage ac compressor on 30 amp which is what its setup to do. I converted mine rig to 50 amp shore power to run both ac compressors.
I did however experience problems with ac compressors starting.
Problem was bad pc board. Replacement is upgraded series.
No problem since

I've read through these postings and, I may have missed something, so I apologize if I'm re-stating something you already understand.

I'm wondering what makes you think that compressor #2 isn't running when on generator power. At least one poster pointed out that the 20A generator circuit doesn't go through your power management system's current sensor. Therefore you will not see the additional amps on your power management systems meter, so that won't tell you if #2 is running or not.

The only way to see the amps drawn by #2 would be to use a multi-meter with a clamp on amp probe. You'd clamp this probe on the hot wire from the 20A generator breaker to your transfer switch.

Alternatively, you should see a temperature decrease at the A/C vents when both compressors are running. Run on #1 alone on generator power for a while, then turn on the breaker for #2 and see what happens to the temperature.

Exactly, generator supplies 50 amp to run both ac compressor, Some winnebago are only wired for 30 Amp shore power which runs ONE AC compressor, I converted mine to 50 amp , best upgrade so far.

When plugged into a 30a post, my unit runs both compressors. Same on gen power.

My 35U is wired for 30 amp and both compressors run on shore power. It has a power management system sheds other items such as the hot water tank when the second compressor is running. If both compressors are running and you turn on the microwave it sheds the second compressor until you are done with the microwave. It can shed other things if needed to stay under 30 amps, but I would have to go to the RV to see what they are. Seems to work great, I have never tripped a 30 amp circuit breaker.

Coleman Mach

I was in the midst of suddenly just 30 amp, one compressor running. I was about to go into debt with a service call, when my neighbor checked the 2 lugs for tgheir current. Sure enough, then mowers had banged the box and one wire came loose. Instead of 220, I had 110. Just a odd deal.

CAN ANYONE..
Let me know if they solved the "freeze up" of the unit on occassion? Has anyone tried a thin layer of screen or window cover to filter the air going into the unit? 35 last night and froze over, after about 3 hours.

Thanks

You may have had low voltage from the loose connection, but 30 amp is 110 volt, not 220. Your thermostat should be switching you over to gas heat when it gets that cold. As far as I know none of the Coleman basement units have a defrost cycle.
