2004 Winnebago Journey AC help

2004 winnebago Journey 34H. Coleman basement AC. Thermostat has power. Fans will turn on but when I slide switch to AC nothing happens. No clicks, nothing.

Worth noting the thermostat readout is stuck on 99 even though the inside temp is 80. At this point I'm leaning toward thermostat failure. Thoughts?

Could also be the thermisters that pickup the inside temp. You should have one or two black "buttons" on a wall near the center of the RV and another in a bedroom.

Those are what tell the thermostat what the inside temp is at those locations.

At least that's how it works with roof A/Cs I'm not positive it's the same on basement A/C.

Thanks for responding Creativepart. I think thermister is on the bottom of the thermostat.

There's a troubleshooting section in this manual. Even if it's not your exact model, it's applicable. The main difference in models is the location of the return vent. It's best to proceed step-by-step rather than using the shotgun approach.

http://www.rvcomfort.com/pdf_documen...6323_copy8.pdf

And, if you don't have it, here's the operator manual for the thermostat:

http://techsupport.pdxrvwholesale.co...s-6535-344.pdf

Again, it should help even if it's not an exact model match.

From the description of the two terminals it sounds like they exist on both the thermostat and the A/C control board. From the description of the test, I suspect they're the terminals where two wires from the A/C connect to the thermostat. Shorting them together would make the A/C board think the thermostat has turned it on.

There's a schematic on page 7 of the A/C service manual that shows them coming from what looks like a nine socket plug. The picture on the right shows F as position 3 and FY as position 1. The picture on the left shows labels them both as F, in positions 1 and 3, both with gray wires. This should help you find where they terminate on the circuit board so you can temporarily short them.

Nothing happens when I jump F and FY at the thermostat. Tomorrow I will trace these wires to the circuit board and jump there.

That section was based on not having a green LED light lit. Is that the case?

If you have a green light you're in the wrong part of the troubleshooting flowchart. You might want to just contact Airxcel, the current vendor and describe what's happening. If they advise replacement, a replacement thermostat is about $128.

https://www.airxcel.com/rv/coleman-m...al-thermostats

They can also advise you as to the correct replacement part and if any modification of the wiring is required.

I called RVP/Airxcel. I explained our my situation and they suggested replacing the thermostat to start with do to the inaccurate indoor room temp.

I shut the main and AC 1&2 breakers off and then back on. Same result. I didn't reset all the circuit breakers.

I have an '04 Adventurer and have replaced the thermostat 5 or 6 times. One way to get by is push the lever very firmly to AC.
Good luck.

Thanks Dyerdog. I'm going to start with the thermostat as I know that needs to be replaced regardless as it only reads between 92-99 degrees. So something is definitely wrong with it. Then will move on to other trouble shooting.

Yeah, they are a less than ideal thermostat. It's too bad there are not alternatives to upgrade. For now I'm replacing it with the factory type, part number 6535-344 (new number, orange wire not used). Also looking into picking up a used ECOBEE SI smart thermostat and wire it in.
