2001 Winnebago Adventure Basement A/C?

Good afternoon I have a 2001 Winnebago adventure with the basement a/c unit and when I first turn it on it cools to proper temperature and then stops, when it turns back on the condenser fan will not turn on, you have to manually turn off a/c and turn it back on for the fan to come back on! Any suggestions? Thanks

This is the 3rd thread this week on the same issue. NP. Maybe you guys can all get together and let us know what you come up with?

I find it very odd and interesting all of you are finding this problem at the same time. I wonder if you all live in the "freeze zone" than fell upon many states last month?

OTHER THREADS TO CHECK OUT

#1: Basement AC condenser fan (O.D. Fan) not starting up:

https://www.winnieowners.com/forums/...ac-360361.html

#2: Generator quits after starting Basement AC:

https://www.winnieowners.com/forums/...ml#post3889541

Once you do some diagnosing and/or find the solution; please send us an update with more information.

First you should check your capacitor specs; and confirm that you can or cannot run your basement AC on shore power?

Please keep us posted on what solves your problem. We would like to know if you problem is connected to the thermostat, AC relay, fan capacitor(s), or circuit board?

Good luck... You should also open the cover to the Circuit Breaker Panel (and then then ATS) and check for loose connections. Including ground.

I'm guessing the freeze had something to do with this if you find lose connections. And if not, you have the peace of mind knowing you performed some preventative manintenance.

Note: You are supposed to torque these electrical connections down, but I don't own a small torque wrench. And if you can turn any screw more than 1/8" then you may have found your problem.

We have the same year, same basement air conditioner. Our compressor(s) will not turn on. We replaced the control board, and start capacitors. Any suggestions? The fan that runs the air inside works fine. We replaced the fan/fan motor a few years back. Scratching our heads at this point.

Based on a couple of bad experiences I must agree with imnprsd on at least two counts.

1. Check your capacitors; they're cheap and easy to replace. If they've never been replaced, save yourself a lot of grief later do so now.
2. Check and tighten any loose screws in the wiring of your ATS. Our original experience was documented here a couple of years ago; it was a loose connection from the inbound shoreline power that melted down and caused a small fire in the box before we could hit the breaker (only damaged a few wires in the ATS box itself). Again, a great annual maintenance item if you drive a lot.

BTW, I actually bought a torque screwdriver to get 40 ft lbs (if I recall the spec). I found the flat head screws were difficult to tighten too much without damage, so I have plans to replace each with a square head screw to ensure I reach the tightness spec.

Good luck.

We had a similar problem with our basement ac where the second compressor wouldn’t turn on and after doing what you have done metered for 12 v on the orange wire in the thermostat and found none being applied even though I could hear the relay click in. I’d verify that the thermostat is sending out voltage next. It was a hundred dollar replacement and easy to replace. Good lock.
