1201 norcold replacement?

My brother just had a fire in his HR. Luckily he was able to extinguish it before any real damage except to the fridge. So now DW wants us to replace our norcold 1200 with a residential. Been having problems with the norcold anyway.
I know there are alot of treads out there but nothing recent. I have a 2004 Horizon 40 KD. Would like to hear from someone who has exchanged the 1200 with a residential (make and model) with little cutting.

Norcold replacement

Hello. I am also looking to replace my Norcold 1211 unit in my 2007 Itasca Suncruiser 38T. I had the smell of it dying with the strong ammonia smell. Luckily I was home and not running it on propane at the time or chances sound good there could have been a fire. I shut it down, unplugged it, opened all windows and turned on both exhaust fans. In my search so far I am seeing options as: Replace with exact new unit $3800 plus labor. Replace cooling unit on backside of fridge $1400 plus labor. Replace entire unit with a counter depth residential unit (Samsung units seem popular) $1400 plus labor, or I could gather some friends and do it myself for lifting out old and lifting in new unit, and not sure if I have to take out a window or remove entry door frame for this.
Residential unit would leave me with no way to run it on propane, answer for that seems to be to run it on an inverter from coach batteries or dedicated fridge battery/batteries when traveling. If you have found some options in your search I would be glad to hear what your plans are. Thanks much. Matt.

I DID NOT replace my Norcold 1211 with a residential frig. I felt (for me) the cutting framing and finish work required was not something I would feel good doing.

So dw and I put a new cooling unit in from JC Refrigeration https://jc-refrigeration.com/

We did however put the strictly 120v unit in as we are always plugged in. To exchange the unit was a very easy project. Limited tools need, very good help from JC. The cost of the unit was a little under 1000.00. I can not say how easy installing a dual unit would be, but it sure can not be any harder than what we did. The new unit runs at setting 4 keeps the frig a 30 and the freezer at 5.

You may want to think about this way.

Good Luck safe travels

Matt,
I replaced my Norcold 1201 with Frigidaire FFHT1425V 13.9 CU FT. after watching my bother's catch fire. Luckily he was with it and the only damage was behind the frig.
Check out the dimensions on the Frigidaire, it will slide right in. Used a side window to get them in and out.

Thank you for reply. I'm still working on solution for my 1211 Norcold. Cooling unit has failed and leaked ammonia. Several options on the table right now.

Replacing the cooling system with a third party package for $1,400 plus labor sounds like a good solution. I have done it in the past and it worked great.

$2500 here for replacement of the entire cooling system on my Norcold in my 2007 38T. Side by side with ice maker and steel looking doors. $5400 was estimate if needed full replaced. It had the typical ammonia blowout just above the main boiler. Yellow dust everywhere, and the smell... ergh
