Why are 3M Water Filters So Hard To Find?

My 2008 Aspect has a factory supplied undersink mounted 3M filter system. The local dealer wants $77 to order it. I have found a couple online vendors that have a picture of the model 1A but none in stock and some on backorder. Their prices are around $45 which still seems pricey for a charcoal sediment filter. The kicker is nobody has them in stock. Backorder timeframe is 5-6 weeks which tells me they don't know. I'm thinking of changing to a non 3M system with better availability and cheaper cartridges. Suggestions?

Well, a water filter system isn't very good if you can't find the filters.
There are plenty of options out there for this kind of thing so look into it and figure out what is available and what the ongoing cost of filters is as well as their availability. It can't be that difficult to install so the question is how much is the initial outlay and how quickly do you recoup it by having cheaper filters.

I went to Lowes and bought a system for about $30 and some replacement elements for $15. I does the same thing and fits the same spot. Take about 10 minutes.

I think I need a B3 for ours, need to check the manuals. Since we just bought the rig I have no idea when it was last changed.

As others stated, it's easy enough to retrofit with something more basic and readily available. That said, I would be surprised if your 3M filter (at that cost) is simply a charcoal/ sediment filter. My guess is that it does much more than odor, taste and sediment. If not, then that's a really expensive charcoal / sediment filter

cheers,
Joopy

On my last MH I changed the under sink filter to an easy to find one from Home Depot for $14.95 hardware included. Replacement filters were $10.95. If I remember correctly the brand was GE. The manufactures brand were $35. each to replace and only carried at Camping World or online. Local replacement worked from Home Depot for me.

Fisheries Supply in Seattle has them. It's a good company to deal with

I think I got the last 2 available on Earth. Everybody has a picture, everybody has them on order, and everyone has them on backorder. That will give me a year to figure out what to replace the system with. This filter is just a charcoal and sediment filter per the specs I read on Amazon. Too much money for too little result. That is why I am changing out to a cheaper, more available system. It won't be a 3M product.
