Water pump check valve?

I’ve got two things happening and I think it may be the check valve on my water pump. It’s a Shurflo but I’m not sure on the model. It’s in a ‘17 Vista.

First, I am getting water into my fresh tank when on city water. Second, when using the tank and the pump is enabled, in getting random bursts of running. That’s not an issue during the day but it is at night as it’s below the bed. If the second issue wasn’t happening, I’d suspect the city/fill valve. Could a faulty check valve cause both of these issues? If so, should I try to clean the existing one or add a new one in the proper spot?

I am already planning on repositioning the pump differently than from the factory. There is a fair amount of room where it is, but they positioned it so the sediment bowl is against the tank and can’t be cleaned. I may also add an accumulator tank at the same time.

Thanks.

You may have some dirt/debris in the fill/city water valve. Turn it on and off a few times and see if you still have the problem.

If the problem is still there (tank filling) you can get a rebuild kit to fix the check valve in the water pump or just replace the pump. The other thing you can do, if you don't want to replace the pump, is add an external check valve between the pump inlet and the line to the water tank. This is probably the least expensive and most cost effective fix.

Thanks. I’ve done the on/off thing every time this happens without any improvement. I’ll probably add a new check valve this weekend.

If you have time, would like to see some pictures of your fix (if possible). I occasionally have the same problem. I bought the repair kit for the Shurflo, and bought a check valve and connectors, but decided to replace the city water inlet because it also has a check valve. Everything was fine on my last trip, but too early to tell.
