Water heater by-pass

1st time with vectra system. What holds the hot water side back when you by-pass the heater to winterize. Valve loops the water to hot side but no hot water shutoff valve to close to hold back or close the tank.

if not mistaken the shut-off is in the off position, then drain the tank. do not winterize the tank. your manual should be able to explain this better?

Most tanks have a one way check valve. This stops water flow into tank when hand valve is in the bypass position. That is how my coach is. Good luck.

If you have the check valve make sure it works, mine leaked when I winterized. Only place that had same type was an RV supply place here in Canada.

I have a 2003 Journey DL that has the "optional winterizer" kit. Manual says I don't have a water heater bypass valve. I'm confused. If I can't bypass the water heater, what does the "optional winterizer" kit do? and how do I bypass my water heater?

Yes, that keeps the cold water out of the tank when the diverter valve is turned up to the winter position bypassing the tank.

Thanks for the drawing. Not trying to sound stupid, but where is the darned thing? From your drawing I think I should be seeing some valve that allows me to divert water that would normally go to the hot water tank. Can you give me some idea where I should be looking for this thing?

On mine the diverter valve is right behind the water heater. It doesn't look exactly like the one in my drawing though. It does have the handle as shown.It is behind a cabinet door under the refrigerator on mine.

Since it is used when you winterize it must be somewhere accessible.
