I am thinking of installing a thin electric fireplace on the wall facing dinette which is the wall between the shower and dinette below the mirror. I would like to recess it a bit into the wall so slide can clear. Has anyone opened this wall up, and what type of construction is there?

Having had an 01 35U, that wall is really thin; unscrew that electrical outlet below the mirror and pull it out and measure the depth. I think you will find it is not deep enough to do what you want. We installed a fold down shelf on that wall to set the toaster oven on and I had to be sure when it was down, that the slide cleared it. Also had to train ourselves to put that shelf down when downloading; never messed up or that would have been a disaster.

Thanks, I planned on looking at the plug for depth. I was hoping someone had stripped the wall and would be able to tell me if it is wood or metal framing and how deep. The fireplace I have is total 3.6 inch deep and the space between wall and slide edge is 3.5 inch. There are other ways I can play with this but any info would be helpful.
Thanks again

Wood and possibly 1.25X1.25 construction with zero extra room in the shower surround except for under the base. You can also take a look under there by removing the grill near to the floor on the wall in the hallway under the OnePlace.
It would be close and the way the living room slide sometimes jostles when it comes in it could easily catch if things are too close.
Other problem is that outlet is ganged on the bathroom GFI which will trip if you run a hair dryer while a fireplace/heater is plugged in there.
I have a Sunbeam wall mounted heater hanging there myself although it is not as pretty as a Fireplace:

I just did that exact same thing on the same wall, using a Hampton bay fireplace from home depot. it is 4.3 inches in depth. my wall had 1x3 in it and I reinforced the wall with additional 1x3 and recessed the unit into it about 1". I also had to cut 1" off off the slideout wall trim to go past it. works great and looks great.

I am aware and slightly concerned about any movement of the slide as it is brought in. If I can gain 1/2 inch extra room, I think I will be fine. If needs be, the glass front comes off very easily and can be stored.

ThaT's a preTTy neaT looking fireplace iT's a liTTle biT narrower Than whaT I boughT. Where did you get yours. It's also a tad thInner than mIne I could not fInd anythIng any thinner. My slide out does coMe in very close to the glass front of My fireplace, and I'll just have to watch it as it comes in. We did have one of those little electric Wood stove job sitting on the Wall under the Mira, but I alWays had to move it and I put it underneath the dinette table.

It is a Napoleon electric fireplace EFL32H and they can be looked up online. I was fortunate to get mine thru a dealer friend. It is the thinnest that I have been able to find also.

Unfortunately I cannot cut anything off the slide trim as the rubber seal is on the outer edge. I don't want to play with that.

Was that on an 2000/2001 Winnebago Adventurer 35U or a 2008 Windsport?
The early 35U has the metal slide flange even to extending almost 1/16 inch beyond the edge of the wood trim.
The wall studs are barely 1 inch thick and the wall paneling is not even 1/8 inch thick. The distance to the wood paneling overlaying the wall panel to the slide flange is 3 5/8 inches giving you at best 4 3/4 inches if you recess into the wall.
There is only 31 inches between the upholstered dinette and the corner of the wall so you could not mount a 30 or 32 inch fireplace heater there and maintain safe distance from the upholstery unless you moved the mirror up to the ceiling giving you an extra 1 1/2 inches and mounted the fireplace up close to the bottom of the mirror so the heat outlet was well above any potentially flammable upholstery.
One would need to consult the installation manual for the fireplace in question to verify if the lawfull clearances can be met.
I am in my 2001 35U right now and just finished measuring.

Mine is the 2000 35u and that is the reason I cannot cut the trip to allow clearance of the fireplace.
