Does anyone have a listing of the bio-degradable toilet paper brands? Would like to find something better than what is available in the camping stores. Thanks in advance

I know Charmin has one - just picked it up in Gatlinburg at the Campground. The rolls are about the same diameter as the other RV rolls but much softer.

Robert ...
On a different forum I learned this little tidbit ...
Look on the back of the package for these words
Safe for Septic Systems and RVs
We have been following this hint for a couple of years and it has been working great

This is what I have. The first chart is from a Good Housekeeping Magazine article. I had a link to it at one time but it's dead now.
Although we tend to use a quick dissolving brand, if you use enough water when you flush I am not convinced it matters.
Brand Dissolving Time in Seconds
(lowest is best)
Charmin Plus 1-Ply 9
MD 2-Ply 9
Coronet 2-Ply 12
Angel Soft 2-Ply 12
Scott 1-Ply 17
Soft 'N Gentle 1-Ply 18
Soft Weve 1-Ply 20
Marcal 1-Ply 20
Soft 'N Gentle 2-Ply 21
Seventh Generation 2-Ply 21
Quilted Northern Super 2-Ply 69
Charmin Ultra 2-Ply 77
Cottonelle 1-Ply 96
Charmin 1-Ply 180
The TP with an Excellent disintegration rating from a Consumer Report Aug 2000 article are:
Albertson's Soft Choice Ultra
Safeway Select Softly Ultra
Quilted Northern Ultra Soft
Quilted Nothern Soft Prints
Target
Kroger
Angel Soft
Charmin Plus with Unscented Natural Aloe
SoftWeve

We have always used Scott single ply. Have never had a problem with it.

I heard a biochemist that makes bacteria for holding tanks. His comment was used almost any kind that is not dyed, and plenty of water.

I've used jumbo packs of Costco TP for years, never had a problem with it. Same stuff we use at our house.

We have used Scott single ply, but had problems with build-up inside the black water tank. We always fill the toilet with water before flushing and then rinse thoroughly with the hose. IMHO Scott is what my daughter calls "John Wayne toilet paper", i.e. don't take s*** off anybody. I agree with this, it takes far too much paper to get the job done. I've said this as delicately as I can. We're currently using Sealand 2 ply we bought for $1.84 for 4 rolls. It's been okay so far, but the ends (last 6 feet)of the rolls come off in zig-zags. And we end up destroying about 3 feet getting a roll started.

Bacterial activity is irrelevant if you dump your tank at least every few days.
A really simple test to see how suitable various brands and plies of TP is to put a sheet or two into a quart jar of water and shake it for a few seconds. If it is suitable, it will quickly break down into lots of tiny pieces.

Whatever the DW wants to buy that day. All works the same pretty much. Just use plenty of water.
