Shower skylight- Have you ever covered/darken it?

Just curious to see if others have covered, painted or darkened the larger triangular skylight in the shower on a Journey. I've made a foam insert but it's not very pretty due to the shape and slickness of the skylight.

Was thinking about using the special spray paint for plastic but wondered if it would stick.

Thanks
Ben

I painted mine. Used regular Ole Restolium glossy white. BIG DIFFERENCE in heat. It still lets in light, but not as bright.

And it looks good.

It won't do MACH 2, but I can get a sandwich and take a pee.

Ours has a sliding cover - which remains closed. So if you lose the light from yours I don't think you would miss it.

Look at Plaxi dip spray - spray it on the outside - if you don't like it you can peal it off.

Both our DSDP's had pleased shades. The Magna is frosted plastic. Looks to have been made that way.

great thread. I have the same issue. WAY to much light coming in from the skylight. First morning in the coach I woke up wondering who turned on the hall light and left it on !!

I don't want to loose the day light that comes thru during the day time. But early mornings need to be a little darker.

So I'm going to try this, I already spoke to the company that custom made my window and tire covers. I'm going to make a cardboard template and send them for the exact size I'll need.

I'm then going to have them make a triangle shape material out of this same material as my window covers but in Black. To keep the most light out. I might even sew in a heat barrier on top of the material. Only problem with doing that is it won't fold up and store away as easy. My window covers fold up and take up pretty much no room.

Then I'm going to remove a few of the screws that hold up the trip around the skylight and replace them with these screw in turn buckles. This will make the removal and install a quick job.

If I have to I can cut these up and weld on longer screws.

If this ends up working good I might consider building them for others and selling them. Seems like nobody sells this & I know if somebody did....I would of bought it.

I put up beige colored blackout material with Velcro. It kept a lot of light and heat out.

shower dome cover

I had the same problem so I bought a product from Ocean Air and covered all my skylights. They are a little pricey but they realy do the job. I bought the hatch covers that have the screen and darkening shade and a full surround . They cut out ALL light, no leakage around the edges, easy to install. check them out

I do not care about the light that comes from the sky light so I painted the outside with white plastic spray coating and then took the inside panel off and put insulation in there and reassembled it. It used to be hot as an oven in there or cold as a freezer, depending on weather and now it is the same as the rest of the coach. Main purpose for the sky light is for head room in shower.

We made a cover from two reflective car windshield covers that looks exactly like some we bought for the vents, and put it in place with Velcro just like the vent covers. They keep out the light, and provide some insulation when desired.
