O Black Water, keep on rolling....

So, last year, we had a big plumbing issue with our Vista 35F...the connection between toilet and black water tank in our front bathroom became disconnected....not knowing this, when I turned on the black water pump while at the dump station, it was not a pretty sight....plenty of yuck pumped into the lower compartment where the pump resides. CW got it “fixed” and cleaned under warranty.....which involved replumbing......part of this fix was a new rubber “fern-co “ coupler on the vertical toilet riser heading to the black water tank..and so we thought we were good. It worked for several pump outs.

Now, upon setting up the RV earlier in the month....I kept smelling odors, so did some checking.....the fern-co coupler had become disconnected....and the pipes that it connect are out of alignment by maybe 1/2”. We had only flushed once or twice before I caught this, but it was still a bit of a mess below.

It was all I could do to get at the drain in this limited space area...but I did get it reconnected and tightened down...but I really had to horse the pipe from the pump to come towards me to get it aligned.....and it seems that it will come re-disconnected upon driving due to bumps/vibration.

If the pump was movable by 1/2”, this would be easier....but it is solidly attached to the Floor of the compartment. The answer may lay in dismantling the horizontal pump piping, and shortening that a bit to get the vertical drain to align.

Any other suggestions? It’s a nasty job working on this, I know. But I don’t want a recurring issue when we move the RV.

Thanks, John
