I had hot water the first thing this morning but later did not.I thought it possibly could have frozen as we are camped in Central Fla. and it did get below freezing.When I bypass the hwh I get cold water.I disconnected the outlet line at the back of my Atwood 6gal.hot water heater. after I DRAINED IT DOWN and then turned the water back on and a little white valve about 11/4" long popped out and the water began flowing out of the outlet.I cleaned it off, stuck it back in and rehooked up the line. Still no water.I then drained it down and have eliminated that valve and everything seems fine.Does anyone no what the purpose of that valve? Is it necessary? Not shown in my Atwood literature that came with my 2004 Winnebago34D Brave What can go bad on it that would stop water flow? Can it be purchased at an RV supply store? Has anyone else experienced this problem? All help will be appreciated.
Yea its a check valve for winterizing HWH, I just put in a new 10 gal. Atwood HWH and didnt come with check valves and i dont winterize so i took the valves out of both inlet and outlet works find but seems like my hot water starts to cool down way faster then before (maybe the valve was slowing down cold water inlet) but it does give me hot water.
Thanks BBBEEBOP for referring me to the forum " check valve " search. That answered all my questions and offered solutions. I plan on putting in a line valve before next winter so I can winterize my unit. Thanks All for your feedback.
I added the manual valves to my water system so that I can winterize and "know" which way the water is going when I do it. It eliminated the need for any of the check valves.
