Hi Steve. Use the flush connection to your tank EVERY time you dump. In our case, I suspect the previous owner, who was elderly, didn't use a back flush device (ever) ... on our first weekend trip, we learned all about the dreaded black pyramid! That's when I began using a Hydroflush. What you are seeing is crusted on residue. We had been on the road about 6 months of our 11 month trip when the black tank sensor reading showed 1/3 -2/3 full even after trying to clean with 'cleaners' (lots of remedies are promoted on the I-net) and despite using a Hydroflush connection at each dump. After installing the Tornado with full street pressure, I would continue seeing debris in 'hard chunks' exiting, even when the water was running clear. At month 9 of our trip, we sporadically experienced faulty sensor readings. I inserted a flexible wand with high pressure nozzle directly down the vent tube into the tank (straight shot from the roof into the tank in our 29R). This higher pressure jet removed even more so I ran full pressure with the black tank valve open for about 45 minutes until the debris exiting changed from chunks to clear water. We haven't had a bad sensor reading since. I'm confident the Tornado does a thorough job with a clean tank. I think the real problem is in the tank design...to get maximum volume, there isn't much slope in the bottom of the tank.
