Hot water heater wont stay lighted

99 winnbago chieftain DSL hit switch hot water heater stay lit about 5 seconds and then goes out.

i don't know if you have an atwood or suburban water heater.

Yes I did I took plug in apart and cleaned it worked for a while then back to the same again I will clean all contacts today

Check the thermo coupler, available at most RV Dealers. Easily replaced and just may do the trick...Good Luck

Carefully remove the thermocouple and gently clean the tip with steel wool. Do not bend it. Replace it and try to light the heater. If the flame extinguishes after cleaning then replace the thermocouple.

There are several other points of failure that cause this problem.. I found them the hard way

If you mean the light at the turn-on switch in the galley, my '96 water heater light only lights for a few seconds indicating the pilot is lit. The light goes out when the burner ignites, but the burner remains on to heat the water.
