HELP??? Cracked water heater

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and I'm really hoping you guys can help me. I have a 2004 Minnie Winnie. I live in her full-time. I recently discovered a water leak that was coming from under the hot water heater. So watched an endless amount of YouTube vids and decided to figure it out myself. I must say I was scared, but I got it out just fine. I found the leak, a hair line crack at the very bottom. Here is my first problem... I'm not rolling in money(I wish) and can't afford to get a new one or have it welded. I can afford some of the new hard core stuff they have out now like flex seal or 3M 800 or gorilla glue patch tape. The crack is super small. Does anyone think it is worth a shot?
Second question... I did order a rebuild kit but sadly I've got to wait 1-5 days for delivery. Meanwhile im without water and the heater is still all unhooked. Should I do anything to it while I wait for the kit? Plug holes? Something? I noticed an oily substance that smelled oddly of anchovies. Underneath the sink that wasn't there b4. It is possible that my friend ate some and poured it down the sink without telling me. Lol! Anyhoo, ANY advice would help. Thanks & be Blessed
