I have a Horizon with a Everpure Water Filter under the kitchen sink. The filter number is XP-1. Where is a good source for replacement filters. Are there other brands or model numbers that will work?

It's $28.95 at www.camperschoice.com and it's a good filter. I wouldn't replace it with an off-brand if it were me.

Every spring! After sitting out the winter I don't want that thing in there any more. I make it part of my "unwinterizing" routine.

Agree with Mark. Change it every season. Last year I bought a 2-pak from Camper's Choice for $40. Haven't found them for any less.

Since we are not full time and only go out months at a time, I do not change ours every year. When we are not using the RV, we take the filter off and put a couple of T of clorox in it and let it sit till we use it again. I discussed this with tech from the factory and he said that it was an excellent idea. We have only used 2 filters in 4 1/2 years and 50,000 miles.

I also put some bleach in ours but store it in our spare fridge at the house.

I would not do this. First, this filter contains activated charcoal. This is what does most of your taste and odor filtering. The charcoal is made to absorb clorine. By adding chlorine to the filter you are depleting the charcoals ability to filter. I know these filters are expensive, but they are the best. They will last a year of normal use. If you want to save a few dollars EverPure now makes a shorter filter. I think they are about $18 at Camping World. I would buy one of the shorter filters and use it for a year.
I'm a retired chemist.
