Question Elec Water Heater Ques

Two questions from the campsite
Vista 35f

Switch on, bright red, no hot water. Circuit breaker okay. Could problem be anything other than dead heating element.

Assuming element is dead, how do I relpace it? I dont see anything on water heater that even remotely looks like what we had on previous RVs (TT & 5er).

Owner manual no help at all.

EDIT - - I dont understand. At DW's suggestion turned on the gas heater, waited to feel warm water, turned off the gas, turned on the electric. Now it seems to be working fine. What did we do? Did we bring our trickster ghost from the house with us?
