Demand water pump does not shut off?

The problem… my demand water pump does not turn off.

I did a quick search and did not get a direct hit...

I have a 32-foot Winnebago Brave. Being from Ohio I just brought it out of storage and was flushing the coach plumbing system of the antifreeze. I used the city water system hookup first, then added a little Clorox to the fresh water tank and filled it to 1/3 full.

Turned on the water pump to check it out. Dropping water pressure. After closing all faucets, shower etc… the pump continues to run. I assume I have a leak in the lines someplace?

Any and all suggestions on troubleshooting are appreciated.

A couple of things. First check the value that you turned to fill your tank is back off of tank fill & back to city water. Also the air has to be purged out of lines by running water from all locations. That means the water heater has to be filled. It can also be the value where you put your hose on is not shutting off & pump is pumping back out your hose.

This can also be caused by a defective ‘City water tank fill’ valve. Turn the pump and the city water off, and then pull the innards of the valve (expect water to flow out) to see if the little prongs that hold the rubber valve are bent (when they are, it’s pretty obvious). If they are, then a new valve is in order. To make things as easy as possible, just put the new innards into the old valve body and you should be up and running.

I've had this happen several times, and it was always the position of the tank fill valve as mentioned above. I also had a 32 foot 2003 Brave. I also agree that you may have to purge the system of air.

The best point for me was the outside shower, since it has both a hot and cold valve and it won't fill the holding tank.. This will also allow your hot water tank to fill and push out the air. You might want to turn on the hot water valve at the outside shower and use the hose until you fill the hot water tank. You'll hear air until the tank fills and water comes out. Then, go inside and open each hot water valve at the bathroom sink, shower, and kitchen sink until water comes out. That should fill all of your hot water lines.

Good Luck

P.S. We loved the motorhome. We took it on the Winnebago caravan to Alaska. Had a blast.

Thanks to one and all for your input.
I'll be trying your suggestions after work today. Wish me luck.

Regards,
Jim

Success!
Thanks to everyone… all good advice. And most of you knew where the problem had to be.

My Actions:
Hooked up the garden hose to the City Water Fill
Water valve turned to City Water
At the water heater; 2-valves set to normal.
Opened outside shower “Hot” (saw and heard sputtering, my first clue)
Opened outside shower “Cold”
Let them both run.
Closed outside shower.
Opened bath sink Hot.
Opened bath sink Cold
Let them run.
Closed sink faucets
Opened shower Hot only (sputtering, second clue)
Opened shower to Cold side
Shut off.
Repeat in at the kitchen sink.
Disconnect garden hose. Put plug in City Water Fill.
Turn on water pump.
Works fine.

WATER LINE AIR LOCK.

I honestly thought I had done all that, but apparently not.
Thanks for your patience in helping a third year novice learn.

Thanks for everyone's posting on this. Being a new owner I made this classic mistake of having the valve in the wrong position and your info corrected the problem.
