Question Black Water Tank Valve Stuck Closed

Hi, we have a 2019 Minni Winni 24ft. We took it out for the third time this week and when we tried to empty our black water tank I realized the valve is stuck. At first I thought it was the metal rod that passes through the frame maybe rusted in place over the winter but thats not it the metal pull rod move about 1/2 inch in both directions. When you pull the handle it move that 1/2" and just stops. I tugged on it put my full body weight into ti and it just does not move. Tank is a little more than half full and it's under warranty. Any ideas would be great. don't think its a blockage either. Oddly enough when we took delivery the valve was sticky but worked I just figured it was new but given this it may have been bad from the beginning. Thanks In advance

Be glad it’s not stuck open! But, it’s still just the lessor of two evils.

It should be a simple fix, the handle simple pulls a gate valve away from the opening. I’m not familiar with your set up. Is it a long rod connected to a distant valve body or is it the kind that is part of the valve body?

I believe it's a long rod, the underside of my trailer is enclosed and insulated for winter use and the valve is not easily accessible. All I have access to and can see are the Handles were they pass through the metal frame. When closed they sit just about flush with the frame and open there is about 6 " of rod exposed. Because of were the pipe leaves the enclosed underside it looks like the valve is at least 2 feet from the handle.

Is it a solid rod, or a cable? A solid rod is usually better.

The long and short of it is you'll probably have to get under there and open up the belly of the beast. Whoever repairs it will have to do this to visualize what's keeping it from opening.

Solid Rod. It's still under warranty and I have scheduled an appointment but it's 3 weeks out. Just glad I am not having to work on it with the tank half full. Thanks for the reply.

One other question, anyone ever used a portable pump out station to pump out the tank from inside? I was thinking about calling one of the porta potty companies to see if they could do it?

Some remote desert place do it, but only from the 3" pipe in the utility cabinet not from the toilet. And, generally not cheap.

What's the bottom covering? A black cloth material or something more substantial?

Once you get that opened you'll be able to see the issue and figure out a fix. Waiting 3 weeks to dump the tank is no fun. And, that's assuming they get you in right away after you drop it off.

You might call Winnebago and get authorization for an independent tech to come to where you are to take care of it. Tell them the dealer is too busy to fit you in for nearly a month.

Try some WD40 on it and see if that works. Spray it every where you can see or get to and let it sit for 1/2 hour and see if it helps. Repeat as necessary

a. posting a photo of the device answers a lot of questions about what type of system you're dealing with,
b. Posting the brand name helps, too. It should be on the flange.
c. In most cases, 4 8mm nuts hold the assembly to the outflow tube. If you can't wait for 3 weeks and want it done right away, go someplace that doesn't mind natural fertilizer, take a number of jugs of water with you to wash out the bay. Loosen top screws a bit, and lower screws more and let the liquid run out while you gag and laugh.
d. There is likely a burr on the knife, so take sandpaper. In a perfect world, you have the brand name and have bought a new knife valve, so re-assembly is easy.
e. After connecting the new knife, test it. If it works as it should, go to someplace that can empty the solids from the tank while you wash it down thoroughly.
f. Enjoy a well-earned scotch afterwards. Stuff happens.
