2 gallon accumulator install

2004 winnebago journey 34H

Just finished the install of a 2 gallon accumulator. Purchased the tank from Menards. Set tank pressure to 25 as that is the start pressure of the Shurflo 1088 pump. It quieted the entire system down. No shower pipe rattle. Pump doesn't kick in for 25 sec of full sink flow. I tested about 4 toilet flushes until pump kicks in. Should get us through the night. The pump does run longer now to fill tank but it is so quiet I'm ok with it.

I did a similar install on our 24V Navion. I tucked the 2 gallon tank under the drivers side bunk. Works great and as you said we can normally get thru the night without the pump running. Did I see a galvanized Tee in the photos? Not sure ferrous materials in your drinking water system are a good idea?

Galvanized tee

It is a good idea to remove the tee but galvanized pipe and fittings were the water supply piping for prob 100 years, so you're not going to get poisoned!

Tank on the way

I have a 2 gallon tank on the way. I have 34' Forza, hoping to fit it in pump area. Looking forward not hearing the pump run every time you turn on the water.

It's a good upgrade. The pump will run less frequent but will run longer to fill the acumalator tank. That's the trade off. I bought some 1/2" soft line to quiet the pump. Installed on inlet and outlet side of the pump. That really helped to quiet the pump and water line noise.

I have a Forza 34T. I put my tank under the bed in the front corner where the waterlines come up to go back to the water heater. I just connected it in line with the cold water line. I no longer have the air bed so plenty of room. Works very well there.

As to steel pipe, most streets, lines to the house, and internal piping; of homes built before the 1970s have all galvanized steel lines. (Including my 1959 house.) The water tastes just fine. In very old homes, galvanizing (which is a zinc coating,) starts to fail, and rust in the pipes can restrict water flow. They talk about 50 years, but I don't see anybody tearing up the yards to replace them around here. I wouldn't get all that excited about a galvanized fitting myself.

Galvanized is fine, Lead on the other hand was used to run from the street to the house in the thirties, that is a huge problem if the water company doesn’t add the minerals to keep the lead covered. (Flint, Mi.)

In the early 60's there was a flood of asian galvanized pipe that wasn't too good. Our supply line was severely blocked.
