Over extending slides

I have a 2007 Sightseer 35j. Planning on doing some flooring work to fix my gouged floor. It has allure flooring. The allure doesn't go all the way to the edge of the slide opening, and the glide bar underneath the slide needs replaced. Tried working on it by raising the slide from the inside. But that didn't get me too far.

Has any one removed the interior trim around the slide and over-extended the slide so that the floor edge is exposed and the glide strip can be replaced. I understand it would have to be supported at the opening.

Or do I have to unbolt the slide from the slide arms to get the extension that I need?

Thanks for any suggestions

Bill

That will probably create bigger problems than the floor issue. But if you have a large level work area and a fork lift available and the mechanical skills needed....might be doable. The trim does not limit the outward travel of the slide, the rails do and it is a delicate job to make the proper adjustments. Perhaps many pics and measurements as you unbolt everything would make reassembly possible. Search slide adjustment problems and you will see that this is a complicated issue. Even Rv shops are miserable at adjusting slides.

I would call Winnebago. They explained to me how to extend the slide 1/2 way and then lift it enough to get to the glide bar. I have a Kwikee electric slide and if you have an HWH hydraulic slide your procedure may be different, that is why I suggest calling them.

Hi, Try this post. Never tried to do this so don't know if it will work. It shows his slide extended past the wall, maybe he can help you.

Marguerite66 Thanks for the try, You're apparently better at search terms than I am.

cbeierl Thanks for the corrected link, it verified I had the right one.

Jbmsr

I have read the entire thread and have to salute you for the Great guidance and suggestions.
It has given me the determination to do the job. So if it's ok, I going to bounce a sequence to you
and would appreciate a review. I'll start with the limitations.

I'm in ohio It's really lousy up here weather wise up, so I had to find a place to work on it.
In the only location I could find that was reasonable with heat is only 16 ft wide
That means I have max 4 ft between the coach and the wall
Did I say the weather is lousy.

Steps I'm going to follow,

Disconnect the Slide Topper
Extend the slide to max, that should leave me about 2 feet to work with.
Build in place a "cart" under the slide floor with the top in-between the slide rails
and the top of the compartments.
I'll have to use beams that go completely accros the slide since I also have
the basement compartments that move with the slide.
using adjustable posts for the 4 corners and casters on the bottom.
Remove everything that I can from the inside shell of the slide.
I have Electric slides, I'll unbolt the ends from the slide as you described and push the slide out.
Fix floor, replace strip at opening with UHMW plastic that is beveled.
Replace Glide on underside of slide with carpeted glide (ordering from winnebago)

Re-assemble

See Smile on better half when the floor doesn't get screwed up again.

I've rehabbed 2 previous RV's so the work doesn't get to me, but have never had to deal with slides
before.

Regards
Bill

Just curious, does the feature trim at the outer bottom of your slide out match the feature trim front and rear of the rest of your coach in hight when completely retracted? If not how much is it off?

I'm moving the coach tomorrow for its oil change before storage. I've never noticed the trim not being aligned. I'll check it and let you know.

Front edge is 3/16 high. Rear edge 1/4 low. Guess an adjustment needs to be done

Yes it many times works much smother. I looked at your coach last night on the Winnebago website. Very nice! I like the lay out. Is your slide a flush mount or is it above the main floor when slid out?

Slide is above the floor when out. We've been making quite a few changes to it since we got it. Got rid of the headbanger TV, DVD player, moved front TV to side of coach left of door. Mcd's shades all around power on windshield. Took out dinette and now have 2 jackknife sofa's. Replaced nocold Fire hazard with ac/dc fridge (nowcold). Replaced bideo bomb with hdmi and power switch panel. Ran cat6 and hdmi to rear. Added stationary satellite dome (dish) and Wilson cell phone amp.

For this work period. Fixing floor, re-arranging kitchen with convection microwave , induction cooktop, corian counters, under mounting sink, adding tile backsplash and installing splendide combo wd

Luckily I do all my cabinetry and electronics and most everything else this rolling box throws at me.

Regards
Bill

All interior trim removed. Basement door pulled to ease getting to slide bolts. Should have support frame built by end of week. Hope to pull slide next weekend. Did find gasket torn in corner. Debating replacing it or letting Winnie factory do it.

Rube Goldberg is alive and well..
Completed the slide roll out table today. Due to restricted space I had to build a rolling support under the slide. Need to move it out 14 inches, luckily I have 19 inches of space.

Couple of pictures, looking to pull it out saturday

Update

Disconnected the 10 bolts holding the slide box to the slide rails this morning.
Was able to move the slide all the way out. My slides are electric, there are four bolts on each slide arm. There is only 2 arms. Plus 2 suspension bolts on the basement box. Got all them off and it slid out easily. Found some damage on the bottom gasket and on the remnants of the original carpet. The process to pull the slide has been relatively painless (other than my knees complaining) . Thinking about pulling the bedroom slide to perform the same repairs.

Removed flooring today. Discovered water damage. Minor but still there. Replacing 2 gaskets as soon as they get here. Making a new shoe for the opening out of uhmw, waiting for that to arrive.
