New TV installation volume control

2004 Winnebago Adventure 35U

Thanks to all the assistance from this forum I have Removed & Replaced the old front TV wood frame with a new TV frame as well as Removed & Replaced the old Sony CRT TV with a Integraded HD LCD TV, a Toshiba Model 32SL410U. The Picture on the new TV comes thru great from any source (Dish, Antenna, DVD). The sound also comes thru from all sources, how ever it is at a constant volume “loud” and the remote for the TV or controls on the TV itself will not affect the volume. The speaker switch for the Radio/TV works, as it should. If I remove the surround sound from the TV set, the volume control works great on the TV alone. All other controls on the remote or TV work great. Has anyone had a problem with the volume control on a new installation?

Yes, a common problem. The quick answer is that your surround sound is looking for variable output from your new TV to control the volume, and you are sending a fixed output.

Check your tv settings and see if you have the option of 'variable' sound in your audio setup. If not, search the forum for River Park surround sound etc and you'll find many threads on solutions (soldering wires to the speakers in the TV, adding a manual POT dial, swapping out for a true surround sound, etc.)

Here's a couple threads that may help:

According to the owners manual for the 32SL410U the RCA audio output volume is fixed and not adjustable.

Found that problem when I was looking at the Samsung 7000, 8000 and 9000 series LED's. I went with a Sony 32EX700 which has either constant or veriable aux speaker output.

Hope you can rewire the spearkers to the surround sound OK. You might reuse the filters that were used on the orginal tv.

Blues, just go to Costco or Best Buy and buy an inexpensive home entertainment system for a few hundred dollars. The system will work with the TV and you will get a good wolfer speaker and DVD.

After I installed my upgraded TV, I took another day to install the sound system, very happy.

If the audio out RCA jacks are fixed volume, apparently Toshiba expected the TV to be connected to something like a surround sound system or stereo that has its own volume control.

So, as mentioned, either control your surround system with its volume control, or replace it with one that has a volume control.

On page 18 of the manual they describe how to connect to a stereo audio system. Then there is the note of the fixed volume.

Unfortunately this TV does not come with a universal remote or a multi-component remote. So you will either need to buy a universal remote or use two remotes (1 for the TV and 1 for the stereo volume).

BTW, the next model up (the 415U) has a universal remote, among other additional features.

I had to attach the wires to the TV speakers to be able to adjust the volume on mine.
