I am all new to this and have a (dumb) newbie question after reading several threads regarding satellite TV.
I do have a satellite dish on my roof which came as a factory option according to my built sheet. My understanding is that it is outdated for today's technology. I have DirecTV at home as well as Amazon Prime, I have the apps for both on my iPhone and are able to watch TV on my phone as long as I have service.
My question is if it is possible to just connect my phone via an HDMI adapter/cable to my TV and watch it that way? It would eliminate a bunch of costly equipment and I don't have to take the receiver box out of my house.

Probably. The only way you will know is to try it! Just be aware when you buy that some HDMI adapters don't support Amazon Prime Video (or other services).

You can stream without a cable to something like a Chromecast HDMI dongle.
Also, check your TV and app store for apps. Our Vizios have an app (we're Android) that can stream from the phone or tablet to the TV, and some TVs with built in networking have native apps that you can stream through.
Both TVs have been replaced with flat screen TVs, I haven't checked yet if one or both are "smart" TVs with built in apps. Streaming large amounts of data is no problem, we have Verizon unlimited.
Thanks for the advice.

You’ll find out soon no such thing as “unlimited “. 15g and you’re done with Verizon. Most HD movies take 2-3 gb ! I have Verizon and Sprint. My Sprint plan gives me 50g a month on the hotspot on my phone. Dish with H3 makes life good!
