Another TV replacement thread

Hi all,

I have pulled the old tv from the front of our 2005 Itasca Suncruiser 37B. We have a TV ready for replacement but am stumped on the best way to mount it. It is too big (by 1 1/2") to fit in the original opening so I am thinking of mounting it to the front of the existing frame. Here's the twist....

I want to be able to access the space behind the TV so the mounting must allow the TV to pivot out of the way but be secure in place while driving. I have seen other threads where people have mounted TV's over the outside of the frame but none that talk about accessing the space behind. Has anyone done what I am describing or know of a way?

Note: I have not removed the metal cage from inside this cabinet.

Thanks!

If you use the search, you will find one that I posted with pictures. I made a picture frame that was larger than the original hole and mounted the TV on a pull out arm. Glad I did because speakers were in the rear.

This is what I did. I used a locking mount for storing in motion. I still have access under my wood mount to store some things. I wasn't interested in turning it in to a cabinet behind. Good place to store misc. sundries.

Thanks for the quick replies. Dogpatch, how does the mount lock? Also, do you recall the brand/model and where you bought it?

It has a spring pin attached to the chain if you look close. A small ring on the chain hangs out just below the TV. There are several types/brands on the market. I can't remember my particular model name but if you google "Locking TV Mount" several should come up. Seems to me I bought it through Amazon. If I find it. I'll post it.

I think this may have been the one. Here's a link.

You have to make sure rated for the weight of your new TV.

You can see pictures of my 32 inch TV installation HERE.

I made two sides, top, back and bottom out of 3/4 inch plywood.
Probably overkill but I wanted 3/4 inches on the right side where I installed the articulating arm for strength and I just wanted to buy one sheet of plywood.
The arm is held with two 1/4 inch bolts with fender washers under the nuts. The top one goes through the steel framework Winnebago uses around the cabinet.

I put the back piece of plywood in last so it could be easily removed to have access to the area behind the cabinet to run wires to the electronics in the cabinets on each side. (5 disc DVD/CD/Mp3 player, VHS player, satellite receiver, Wilson cellphone amplifier, Wilson Trucker cellphone antenna downlead coax,KR1 wireless router and and Verizon aircard).

Before installing the plywood pieces I covered them with laminate flooring left over from my flooring project. I stole that idea from pace89. If you search for his user name he has a good post showing what he did.

I had to trim about 1/4 inch off the cabinet doors on each side of the TV. A little Light Oak stain and some polyurethane varnish and you can't tell they were trimmed.

A couple of the pictures show what I used for the travel hold downs. I put some weather stripping on the back of the hold down bars to protect the TV face.
