Which wheels?

I'm in the process of ordering a new View Profile.
They offer "stylized aluminum wheels" as a $2100.00 option or standard wheels with stainless steel wheel liners.
Not sure I need to spent 2100 on aluminum wheels. I assume stock wheels are steel with stainless liners to make em look better. Aluminum is lighter but what other advantage might there be?
Any thoughts?

If you drive anywhere, that salt is on the roads or in the air, you'll want to stick with the Stainless. Also if you clip a curb, better chance of the metal wheel surviving for you to drive away. If you don't need the weight saving for CCCapacity , save the $$$ for fuel.

I agree salt would be aluminium worst enemy, and i don't think the difference in weight could be a great factor I would surely go with Stainless

This is not a stainless wheel though, they describe it as a stainless wheel liner. What exactly is that? Sounds like a fancy hub cap. Don't see that offering much corrosion protection. Still not worth 2100 in my mind. Like you say that will buy a lot of fuel.

A stainless Wheel cover Is exactly that a "hub cap " that covers the steel wheel to simulate the look of the aluminum wheel. Some are better looking than others. Ever see one not centered and "wobbling " down the road?
FYI the Aluminum wheels are front and outside rear.. The inside rears are generally steel ( you dont see them anyway). IMO the aluminum have some advantages but the Biggest ones are appearance and resale Just like on a upgrade on a sporty car.
Your call .. if 2100 is a deal breaker .....

Aluminum wheels suffer from galvanic corrosion around the stud holes. Search this forum and you'll find numerous postings about it. I'd stay with steel wheels and stainless wheel liners, which are not hub caps. Liners are held on by nuts on the wheel studs. Hub caps are wedged into the wheel and can wobble a lot if not put in evenly all the way around.

Thanks for the assist. The dealer (General RV) tells me they rarely order the aluminum wheels and cite the corrosion issues. Steel it is.

Wheel liners are easy to keep clean and shiney and cheap. To 99% of people, they don't know the difference.

If I had a brand new Winnie, I would avoid driving on wet salty roads like the plague!! You're going to have corrosion in a hundred other places besides the wheel studs.

Of course that's easy for me to say here in southern CA.
