I did a bit of searching and found the answer to my question.

Now a new question, which I hope will receive some informative answers...

We have the XRV 235/80R 22.5 tires, and will be replacing them prior to this summer's travels. Our coach was built on the heavy side for a W22 and we run right at our weight limits. However, I see that they are using the 235/80 tires on the W24 chassis, also, which reassures me that we aren't overloading our tires.

We will probably just replace them with 235s, but, in light of the ongoing controversy about the XRV tires, what other tires should we consider? Would going to the 255/80 tire size be overkill? I have also seen Goodyear mentioned in other posts... any suggestions?

I like quite a few other Journey owners with 26,850 GVWR chassis have upgraded our tire size from 235/80R22.5 to 275/70R22.5. The reason we did this is that according to Freightliner, our chassis have axle and chassis weight ratings that are tire limited. In other words, the GAWR and GVWR are limited by the weight the tires can safely carry.

By increasing the carrying capacity of the tires we aren't legally increasing the GVWR, but we do have additional safety margin and I certainly feel more comfortable without being required to run my tires at their maximum inflation to support the load. Although upsizing tires usually results in increased rolling resistance which negatively affects fuel mileage, the larger size tires run significantly cooler during use.

With those positives being stated, I don't see a need to upgrade on your rig since it is lighter and does not approach the weight rating of the tires. Of course, everyone should weigh their rig, but you'll find the tires are not the limiting factor of the GAWR. The GAWR rating for the W20 and W22 through the W25.5 chassis are all lower than the rating for the tires used on those chassis.

Joe... thanks for your input. We share your feelings about wanting the added margin of safety. Since we weigh in right at our limit when loaded, we run with our tires at 105 front and 95 rear, which we have felt is too close to the max for those tires. And, they run pretty hot when in use, especially on our trips from AZ to Northern CA during early and late summer desert heat. Now, after seeing that the same tires are used on the W24, I feel more comfortable, but the heat factor still bothers me.

We will probably just replace the old with new ones of the same size/type. Thanks!
