I am trying to make the right choice of tires. I have been told Goodyear G670s are a good choose. A local tire dealer imformed me he was having good luck with the Sumitomo brand and they are less expensive. What do you think? The size I'm looking for is 255/70R22.5. I am now using Michelin 235/80R22.5 and had a zipper blowout in Calorado and could not find a replacement, ended up buying a used tire to get home.

I have only had Michelins on my Journeys (prior was a '00 Journey). I hear good things about the G670's. Hopefully someone who switched to the Goodyears will chime in, but my understanding is that they have more load capacity, and some suggest it provides better handling than the Michelin's.

For me, I would stick to either the Michelin's or the Goodyears. Haven't heard a lot about those 'off' brands.

P.S. If you do put Michelin's back on, consider moving up to the 255/80R22.5's. Winnie moved up one tire size on the Michelins due to the concerns that the smaller tires may be too close to the weight limits. Just check to make sure the physical size will fit your coach.

I recently ordered 4 G670 to replace the four rear Michelin 255/80R22.5 on my Journey. I found a nice slice on the sidewall of one of Michelin's and decided with all the bad press surrounding the Michelin tires I would not throw good money after bad. I have ordered Goodyear 275/70R/22.5 that have a higher load range than the Michelins. I will probably keep one of the Michelin tires for a spare and sell the other two. They only have about 7500 miles on them.

I have not seen anything at all on this site about Sumitomo Tires.

I have Goodyear G670's in 20,000 + Miles and six years they have not given ME any trouble.

But if your dealer recommends Sumitomo's I think I would listen to a man who is in the tire business not a fellow RVer..

Good Luck in making your choice. Just Do it.

No disrespect intended to itchin2go, but for all the reasons cited in his post is why I would not consider the Sumitomo tires. I am leery of the Tire Guy trying to sell you what he thinks is best, or what he may have in stock, or maybe a higher margin to him....

I suggest you research the other posts in this forum on tires as has been suggested. There are a lot of learnings here. Do your research first and choose accordingly.

I put the G670's on my Journey after much research. The 275/70/22.5 is almost an exact replacement for the 235/80's you currently have. The improvement in ride and handling was notable.

Ditto smlranger---replaced the 235's with the G670 275/70/22.5. Ran the same tires on the last motorhome and have been very pleased.

Have not used the Sumitomo on the RV but have the Goodyear G670s and am very pleased with them. I have had Sumitomo on cars as have some friends and we have found them in the past to not have very good wet traction although they were long wearing. In Florida, with our hot roads and sudden down pours durring our rainy season, the wet traction is a big issue.

They may have improved upon this but I would check first.

Wonder what the price differance might be between the Sumitamo's and the Goodyear?

One concern I would have is how easy is it to find Sumitomo tires out on the road? Not sure if they are that popular yet or readily available... Goodyear and Michelin own the bulk of the RV tire market.

Thanks for all the response. The price I got for Goodyear G670 was $367.71 plus tax, for the Sumitomo the price was $256.31 plus tax per tire..
